Dear Colleagues,
As part of my training, I made a whole box of materials as part of my
certification. I am so happy to share some tips.
1. Sensorimotor materials:
Fabric box: got to a craft store and if you see diffferent fabrics
that has different textures...buy the 1/8 of yard and cut it into 6 x
6. Have at least 4 pairs for matching.
Tasting bottles: Go to a beauty store and buy the 8 atomizers and
put vinegar and water, salt & water, sugar, coffee, etc. I put one
set with blue ribbons, one set with red ribbons. Child matches the
taste.
Do the same for smelling. Buy potpourri oils and put water. Or
buy incense (cheaper).
2. Math materials. Go to craft store pre-cut poster 6x9 and put
contact paper first. Buy sandpaper and cut. Use rubber cement. Or buy
wallpaper border(white) so there is texture. Same with sandpaper
letters.
3. Science Collect National geographic magazines. All animals cut and
put in construction paper. Laminate. Cut all plants. Laminate. Living
and non living.
4. Language. Use click-art from computer to get different objects for
laminating. Always make two copies for matching. Cut small squares of
different colors of construction paper for matching. Put in white
background with the name of the color.
THUS:LAMINATOR IS A GOOD INVESTMENT and so are the following
CONSTRUCTION PAPER. PAPER CUTTER. GOOD PRINTER WITH COPIER.
PAINTS.
There are so many more than you could imagine as they say.. necessity
(or is it lack of money) is the mother of all invention.
Other tips:
Go to paint stores get paint swatches use it for matching or child
will cut for art. (cost :free)
American surplus stores has all the cheapest science materials.
Garage sales has a galour of baskets for containers of materials.
Good Luck.
By the way, I'm Myla and I am from Chicago.
