This group is dedicated to the Los Angeles to Monterey Park rail project, which will essentially be an extension of the Gold Line from Los Angeles Union Station to Pomona and Atlantic Boulevards, in the city of Monterey Park, and becoming the first run-thru rail line in the history of Los Angeles Union Station. It will provide service to Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles. The new 6 mile extension opened November 15, 2009.

This extension contains six miles of track and eight stations including two that will be subterranean (subway style).

When completed, the Los Angeles Metro Rail system will be a 94-station system composed of six lines, with the Gold Line having the most stations (34).

The current 74-mile system will be expanded to over 110 miles when the Exposition, East Side, and Montclair line extensions are completed.
