Subject: Pembro / Pemton Family Monmouthshire / Wales.

Hi there,
I am new to this list and was wondering if anyone had any connections to or information on the Pembro / Pemton family who lived in the Monmouth area of Wales in the 1800's +.
I am hoping someone may have access to the 1841 1851 1861 or 1871 census lists to tell me if there were any Pembro / Pemton family members living in the Monmouthshire / Mynyddislwyn / Risca areas of Wales.
Thomas and William Pembro were two brothers but did they have any siblings & who were their parents ?
Thomas Pembro married Ann and appears in the 1881 census as having six children one of whom was my Great Grand Father Mark John Pembro / Pemton. The family are listed in the census as both names but the family tree after Mark John uses the name Pembro. The assumption is that census enumerators made a mistake in the name and so used both!
I am told "a" Thomas Pembro was a much respected local businessman J.P. and local Methodist preacher but have no confirmation of this or even if it is the same one listed above. Can anyone help?
All help will be very gratefully received as I keep on hitting brickwall's with this family. Thank you for reading this and good luck with your own searches.

Hi,I am very keen to make contact with anyone who has connections to
the Pembro/Pemton family who were born/raised in the Monmouth/Risca /
Mynyddislwyn/St Woolas areas of Wales. Thomas and William Pembro were
quarrymen in the Mynyddislwyn area and had their families there. I do
not know if these two brothers had any other siblings or who their
parents were.Re:Thomas Pembro's family, he married Ann and had six
children Tom, William, Mary, Hannah, Elizabeth and Mark John. Mark
John was my G/G/Grandfather and appears as a 10 year old in the 1881
census. Mark left Wales and made a fortune from the South African
goldmines but returned to Wales before settling in The Forest of
Dean/ Lydney area of Glous. If you can help by looking up census
records for the Pembro family or have any information no matter how
small please do get in touch.

Have added two more databases - 1. Look Up Service for Census or

anyone can help add your name to the request and after you found the
information for the person concerned - delete the message. 2.The
other database is for photograph requests. The Look Up Service is

Also I have added a enquiry notice board to the Database section on

you have any ideas or the one I have constructed I will try and

Mike:

As a member of this group who is very distant from Monmouthshire, I
am very appreciative of pictures available. I live in Canada and am
not able to visit the sights of my ancestry without very large
expense. It is excellent to be able to see them through pictures on
the web.

I have been VERY fortunate in the last few years to be working in
Libya and have had the opportunity to visit my ancestral homes in
several places in England and Wales at a reduced cost. Your offer of
pictures reminds me that I may have some of my own to share as I
recently did a bit of touring in and around Llangwm Isha, Llandenny,
Llansoy, Gwernesny, Gwehellog and Usk and took som pictures of
churches, scenery, etc that others may be interested in. I am
currently in Libya, but in a month or so whrn I get back to Canada I
will plan to do som scanning of pictures to contribute.

Hi Mike,
Since my ancestors lived in Varteg, I would be interested in seeing
any photos from there. Especially the Methodist Chapel if it still
exists. My Foot, Buckle, Jeffries ancestors were living there in the
1830 - 1860 time period. Thank you for your help.

the 1881 census just says Charles Edwards born Monmouth and his age is given
as 27 years.the 1891 census gives his age as 41 years,& his marriage
certificate in 1776 gives his age as 25?.there was a Charles Edwards born in
the dec quarter 1850at Monmouth ref xxvi86 so I have sent for this hoping
that this is the right one but with all the different ages I am not sure
that it is thank you for suggesting Earlswood as it could be here and not
knowing the area this might be a great help (i am still waiting for a map of
the area)

I am seeking any information regarding the family of William Williams
and Susannah Powell, who married in St Woolas church, Rogiett, 15
August 1833. Their children were Alfred (1833) Mary Ann (1835)William
Thomas (1838) Eleanor (1841) Edwin (1844) George (1847 - my great-
great-grandfather) Martha (1849)and Reuben (1855). All except Alfred,
William Thomas and Eleanor emigrated to Australia, and we have a fair
bit of information regarding those who emigrated. We know William
Thomas predeceased his father (1891) but we don't know any details,
nor any details of the other two except that they were still alive in
1891.

If anybody knows anything about our "missing branches" I would love
to hear from you.

It could be Earlswood near Shirenewton south of the
county not far from Usk. There is a John Edwards Mason
at Llandegveth in 1851 aged 34 born Tredunnock. wife
Sarah 35 born Llangibby, children Jane 7 born
Monkswood, Anne 5 born St Woolas, Elizabeth 3 born St
Woolas and Mary 7 months born Llandegveth. They do not
appear at Llandegveth on 1861 census . There is a
Charles baptised at Llanhennock 28.10.1852 to John &
Mary Edwards could Mary be a second wife as
Llanhennock is next to Llandegveth, but unfortunately
Llanhennock 1861 census is missing. All these places
are near Shirenewton. You need to see this baptism
record. By the way what does the 1881 census say for
Charles birthplace.

Hello everyone!

My name is Elizabeth McKenzie and I live in Aurora, Ontario, not far from
Toronto.

I am currently researching my great-great-great-grandparents Isaac and Mary
HANKS of Trevethin and Edmund and Eliza (Harris) LLOYD of Pantegue (Panteg).

I have only recently discovered my Welsh roots and do not have a whole lot
to share BUT if any are interested I can easily prepare a GEDCOM for you.

Isaac HANKS was a butcher in Trevethin at the time of the 1841 census. I
believe he was christened 2 Mar 1777 at Stanway, Gloucester, England s/o
Thomas and Anne HANKS, but this has not yet been proven. Isaac married Mary
c1807. Children of Isaac and Mary HANKS all christened at Trevethin:
i) Eliza HANKS x 14 Jun 1807
ii) Mary Ann HANKS x 14 Jun 1807
iii) William Baggott HANKS x 10 Jun 1811
iv) Caroline HANKS x 17 Mar 1816
v) Sarah HANKS x 17 Mar 1816
vi) Edward HANKS x 28 Sep 1817
vii) Rachel HANKS x 12 Jun 1820
viii) Rhodia HANKS x22 Nov 1821
ix) Ruth HANKS x 23 Jan 1823
x) Thomas HANKS x 20 Mar 1825 m Anne LLOYD
xi) Rhoda HANKS x 4 Apr 1827
xii) Isaac HANKS x 11 Sep 1830

Anne LLOYD, who is believed to be the daughter of Edmund and Eliza (HARRIS)
LLOYD. (I would dearly love to find the christening for Edmund LLOYD!)
Edmund and Eliza's LLOYD's children were:
i) William LLOYD x 1818 m Eunice WATERS
ii) Anne LLOYD x 1821 m Thomas HANKS
iii) Richard LLOYD x 1823 Trevethin m Anne WILLIAMS
iv) Edmund LLOYD m#2 Mary HARRIS
v) Sarah LLOYD x 1831 d 1845
vi) James LLOYD x 1828 m Jane
the above information is courtesy of Sylvia White, Stanley Leonard and Tony
Pinch.

Anne LLOYD married #1 and had
i) Mary Ann bc1840 m.G. HOLDEN
ii) Caroline b1852 m. Joseph JACKSON
Anne LLOYD m.#2 Thomas HANKS a furnaceman, and moved to Leeds, Yorkshire.
One known child:
iii) Eliza HANKS b 1858 Pentnewynydd m 1884 Hedley Goodall SAVILLE

Eliza HANKS and Hedley Goodall SAVILLE were my great grandparents.

If I can be of any help to anyone searching these lines please ask!
