Sorry for the confusion caused by my original post - I was trying to keep a
complicated story simple! In the 1901 census, the newly wed Margaret Jones and
Thomas Sanders (m 1900 Aberystwyth) are in Oswestry with Denys their 13 year old
'son'.

Denys was born in Borth, as was Margaret. We can not find any birth registration
for Denys, nor can we find him on the 1891 census. Margaret was recorded as a
spinster on her marriage certificate and we have found her in the 1891 census,
still living near Borth.

By 1902, Margaret, Thomas (and presumably Denys) had moved to Monmouth. Annie
Elizabeth Sanders was born there in 1902. A sister Gladys May Sanders was born
in 1903. In 1904 both Thomas and Gladys May died. Hence my question re finding
out about where in Monmouth they might have been buried.

Annie Elizabeth and mother Margaret continued to live in Monmouth. IN the 1911
census they are still there, at 1 Pages Court, Drybridge Street. The entry has
been mistranscribed to show the surname as Launders although on the original it
is clearly Saunders (enumerator's spelling) and Sanders (Margaret's own
signature). Denys however has gone.

We have found a possible sighting of Denys aged 17 sailing for Canada, in 1907,
which ties in with family legend.

So, I was wondering if there might be any records of Denys or Annie Elizabeth in
Monmouth during the period 1902 - 1911. I was thinking school as Annie at least
would have attended school during that time. I don't know if Denys would have
been too old.

Thanks

I think it says Onkell (Uncle) too and given that he is naming relatives
like aunt and godmother I think it fits the context as well

It almost looks like Onkell? (Uncle?) A bit more of the text would help.

Interesting to see the BRISLAND/ Mon. connection Mike.

Most local Brislands seem to be connected to Herefordshire
( earliest on IGI in HENTLAND).

(My interest .............husbands gt gt grandmother CAROLINE
BRISLAND was b. LONGHOPE GLS. although her father JOHN BRISLAND a
tailor/ orig. Hentland.)

Yeah... what a swizz... I saw it on Saturday when I was over there. The trouble
is that it is going to kill it for those on limited means. Pity they can't
distinguish between those researching privately and those who do research as a
business.

I can answer that one being one of the cousins involved, the name
Sanders/Saunders was transcribed incorrectly as Launders on 1911 census,
(not changed as yet but they have been informed) They lived at 1 Pages
   Court, Drybridge Street.

I can answer that one being one of the cousins involved, the name
Sanders/Saunders was transcribed incorrectly as Launders on 1911 census,
(not changed as yet but they have been informed) They lived at 1 Pages
Court, Drybridge Street.

If the family were from Glamorgan then maybe they were taken back there to
be buried.

The only Denys Sanders I can find on the 1901 census aged 13 was born Borth
Glamorgan and so were his parents Thomas Sanders and Margaret Jones. If the
family were from Glamorgan then maybe they were taken back there to be buried.

There are school records in Monmouthshire, but your Annie Elizabeth was she in
Monmouth 1911 because you mention censuses but dont say where, which caused the
confusion.

Hi I am looking for information regarding burial sites in the Abercarn area in
the 1880's. My great grandfather Willian Thorne died about 1886 and my gt gt
grandmother Susanna Thorne died about 1881, her husband John Thorne died in the
1890s all lived in the Abercarn area.
The cemetry in Abercarn was opened in 1902 I believe, can anyone help?
Many Thanks
Mike

Mike,
Way back in my schooldays (50,s) I was friends with a John Thorne, whose family
ran a farm on Mynyddislwyn.
The farm was about half mile west of St Tudors and backed on to the old
reservoir.
Don't know if this would help.
John

Hi I am looking for information regarding burial sites in the Abercarn area in
the 1880's. My great grandfather Willian Thorne died about 1886 and my gt gt
grandmother Susanna Thorne died about 1881, her husband John Thorne died in the
1890s all lived in the Abercarn area.
The cemetry in Abercarn was opened in 1902 I believe, can anyone help?
Many Thanks
Mike
