H. 'Oze' (pronounced O-ZAY, like Jose = ho-zay and ole = oh-lay) is an exciting new, variegated hosta from Japan that Mark Zilis' Q&Z Nursery introduced last year. Leaves are light to medium green with creamy white to white margin.
H. 'Oze' has been designated an AHS UNREGISTERED MINI HOSTA. I wrote an item about it in the Fall/Convention 2008 issue of "The Hosta Journal" (Vol. 39, No. 3, p. 17).
Information at the time from the nursery gave leaf length as 2 1/2 inches and leaf width as 1 1/2 inches. Zilis in his new weighty tome, "The Hostapedia," has a slightly larger leaf size: 2 1/2 inches by 1 5/8 inches.
I purchased two 'Oze' this spring, each from a different nursery. I am surprised at the leaf blade sizes. Leaf blade of one measures 3 1/2 inches long and 2 inches wide. The other is 3 inches by 2 inches. For both, margin width is about 3/16 inches.
I'm now questioning whether 'Oze' should be an AHS Unregistered Mini. My plants are not of mature size, so I'd expect mature plants to have even larger leaf blades.
Does anyone else grow 'Oze'? If so, what is the leaf blade size?
