Just received Jill Timm's new book, Sedona Scapes. Lovely photography,
clay-looking covers of polymer clay and a
beautiful presentation box. I so admire an artist actually trying to live off
just her art. Did you know several libraries including
the Center for Creative Photography, University of Arizona where Ansel Adams
work is housed, has purchased Jill's
beautiful books? Jill has real talent and real guts, take a look at her
wonderful offerings! Lovely, Jill!

Those of you who received the 2002 MBS DIRECTORY and were as shocked as we were
with page 9 (re. Michael Garbett), please take notice that IT IS A MISTAKE!!!!!
We just talked to Michael on the telephone, he is alive and well and was able to
chuckle about this erroneous announcement of as yet unkown origin. Michael, you
will live to be 120!

Trying to reach an MBS board member, preferably Neale Albert.
Have created a downloadable PDFof the 2001 MBS Exhibition Catalog.
The PDF could be placed on the MBS website and vastly increase its
distribution. Interested viewers could print or easily get info about the
Book Competition entries, how to purchase, etc. Workshop leaders
could download and print it out themselves as many as are needed.
Would encourage more participation in the Competition. It would be a
good thing I think. MBS members would still get the priviledge of having a
commercially printed version in their hands.
The MBS Board would need to approve this first. Have sent emails to Neale
and Jim Delancey but everyone must be away as I have not received an
answer in some time. Even sent one to the new MBS webmaster. Would
somebody contact me regarding this?
Also, am about to deliver a lecture on Miniature Books (my first!)
through Johns Hopkins at the Howard County Public Library on May 6th.
I want to encourage MBS membership and represent our wonderful passion
very well. Any ideas or help or advice or jpegs very much appreciated. If
anybody is in the Maryland area on May 6th, please consider coming in support!

The MBS webmaster has posted the 2001 Miniature Book
Exhibition Catalog on www.mbs.org

It is a PDF file. You will need to have an application called
Acrobat to open, view and print. If you don't, there is a link there
to get Acrobat - it's free! Try it out. Print a page or two on your
home computer.

If your internet connection is not DSL or cable modem, the
download will be a little slow. Be patient - it is worth the wait!
It is filled with lots of color pictures of this years competition
entries. We tried to make the file as small as possible and still
print acceptably.

Please pass the word to others interested in miniature books.
This is a great way to grow the art and get more people involved
in making or collecting mini-books!

Good news. I just heard from Joe D'Ambrosio that he is working on a new
miniature book, to be announced late next month.

The NY Antiquarian Book Show opens tomorrow. Ill go and look for miniatures.
Usually only Anne Bromer has them. I expect to see Julian Edison there.

The Rare Book Room at the University of North Texas is organizing an exhibition
of its collection of miniature books, to open in September.

One of the segments of the display will be on ex libri - bookplates, stamps,
etc. We have a number of volumes with bookplates and stamps from a various
collectors, but are looking for information on modern users of bookplates and
stamps.

Would anyone who uses bookplates or stamps to mark their miniature books be
willing to donate a specimen of their bookplate or an impression of their stamp
to include in the display? We won't put address or locations on the labels, but
would like to show that bookplates are still being used.

Thank you for any assistance.

ONE of the smallest collections ever has gone on display
at a South Yorkshire museum this week, but visitors may need to bring their
magnifying glasses with them.

An exhibition of more than 70 miniature books, which look
like they were designed for The Borrowers, yesterday went on show at
Barnsley's Cannon Hall Museum, as part of the German collection's first
visit to England.

The exhibition, which was launched in Koblenz, in Germany,
in 1999 from the archives of the Miniature Book Society, shows how popular
miniature bookmaking has been through the ages. Manager Jane Whittaker said:
"Miniature books have fascinated people since writing was first used. Even
before printing was invented little books with hand-painted illuminations
were lettered by hand.

"Miniature books were among the earliest printed books,
and they are still being lovingly produced today, bound by hand."

All the books in this exhibition are less than three
inches tall and some so tiny they can only be read using a magnifying glass.
Titles range from A description of Jesus Christus by Publius Lentulus to
Advice to a young man on choosing a Mistress by Benjamin Franklin.

The exhibition has been touring Germany since its launch.

Exhibition organiser Stephen Burns will demonstrate
miniature bookmaking at the hall on Wednesday and Friday afternoons
throughout July.

The display runs until August 4.

this article appeared in my daily paper today and I thought you might be
interested to read it. I have rung them to see if there are any of
James' books in the exhibition, as the museum is only about 20 miles

July. School gets out in 2 weeks time.

Dear Folks in my personal address book.

I have a major announcement to make.
As some of you may know I quit my "day" job at IBM a year and a half ago to
be a full time book artist. I am happier now than I have been in a very long
time. With self employment comes the freedom to live anywhere I want. I have
been looking for the perfect place for several years. With Austin being too
hot, too flat and too expensive, in spite of all the good qualities, it was
time to move on.

This year I found the place that meets most of my criteria. And last week I
moved! To Wenatchee, WA. If you want to see a few photos and a map go to
http://www.mysticalplaces.com/wen.html. While you are at my site you might
go to the home page and see my latest books.

My e-mail and web site stays the same.
  My new address is :
1400 Central Avenue, #107
Wenatchee, WA 98801-1499

Cheers, Jill

P.S. I have several different mailing lists, sorry if you get this message
more than once. If you don't want to be on my mailing list(s), just drop me a

No I haven't!

I only went away for a few days, and I return to a deluge of
enquiries - well it's nice to be popular.

My address and phone number are the same as ever. If anyone wants
them they are in the MBS yearbook and on my homepage as usual.

I hear that a customer of mine was trying to get through to me -
my phone is working and I've not received any calls, so I presume
the number was wrong.

Rest assured that I'm not intending moving, and if I do I'll post
the changes on my website immediately.

Hi, To those who live in the Conclave area, I've a question: If
Anna and I are able to take several extra days before or after
Conclave would you recommend any "secret" points of interest, natural
or man-made not included in the tour books...that are worthwhile
visiting? All suggestions appreciated...(and all suggestors will be
held harmless.) Thanks in advance.
