The Israel Genealogical Society is pleased to announce that the 24th
International Conference on Jewish Genealogy will be held in Jerusalem, Israel,
July 11-16, 2004. Plan to join us!

Jerusalem offers a treasure trove of unique archival and family history
resources unavailable anywhere else in the world! Walking the very ground where
it all began, and visiting Biblical sites are experiences you will not want to
miss!

Why genealogy?

Genealogy has always been part of Jewish life--just think of yichus and the
Levi/ Cohens among us. Genealogy is also our shared history--the expulsions,
immigrations, pogroms, and the Holocaust. Although evil has decimated and
divided us, we have survived....but have lost our roots along the way.
Relatives are still searching for (and finding) one another. Come be part of
the excitement, come meet your Israeli cousins!

My name is Edward Meltzer and I am from Kansas City. I am
researching my maternal grandmothers family. Their name is listed as
Miller on the Ellis Island ledgers and they settled in Patterson New
Jersey before coming to Kansas City. They came from a town south
southeast of Lodz and forgive me but I believe the spelling is close
to Radoszyce.

However, I was told that their name in Poland was something close to
Millschpeis and I have no idea of how to correctly spell that. Are
there any connections in this group to anyone else by chance?

Thank you.

Dear Ed,

We could very well be related. But I know little of Louis Miller that I
could not say. It was very likely that Louis was the immigrant. All I know is
that he is likely to have lived in NYC and Philadelphia, possibly also in
Baltimore. He beat my greatt grandmother to the extent that my grandfatther hit
him
over the head with a wine bottle and kicked him out. Do your Millers have
big ears? I wish I knew more.

Dear Judy: Were any of your family from the town of Radocyze, near
Lodz? That would be one link. The other link would be if there was
a connection to that yiddish last name of Milschpeis. Do you know
when your millers came to America and if they came through Ellis
Island?

I'm not sure what constitutes a variation. My mother's parents, sometime after
1906, changed their name to Miller in the US. Prior to that it wAS Milewski,
pronounced somewhat like Milievski.

I am trying to find out the birth town of my paternal grandmother,
Ethel Miller. The little information I have isn't helping at all,
even with my extensive research on Ancestry.com.

My grandmother was born "in Poland" in 1891 (no one remembers her
birth town), was Jewish, and emigrated to the United States via Port
of Baltimore about 1903. She lived in Cleveland Ohio from about 1911
to her death in 1961. According to my father, she spoke Polish and
Yiddish. She was married to Albert Kaufman. She had a brother
named "Abraham".

My father insists that my grandmother's maiden name was "Miller".

Any leads, suggestions?

I have recently discovered that my relatives original name may have
been any of those listed in the subject line. Their names were
changed to Miller and they settled in Patterson, New Jersey on Water
Street between 1917 and 1922.

My family came from all three shtetl's in Poland, Tomaszow, Lodz and
Radoszyce.

Are there any other connections out there with similar original names
and locations?

Dear List,

I am the newest member.
My name is Micha Reisel, I live in Hod Hasharon, Israel
since 1998, before that 27 years in Oslo, Norway and
before that I was Dutch.

I have been researching my Lithuanian Jewish roots
for 20 years but haven't done too much
on my Dutch/German Jewish roots.

My maternal gggggf was born in Hanau in Germany in 1720
He came to Holland to Diepenheim as Andries Liefmann
and in 1811 added the surname MULLER.
He died in Diepenheim in 1820.
Family lore says that he owned a mill and therefore
called himself Muller, which sounds plausible.
There are no records in Diepenheim that he ever owned
a mill, and a Miller in Dutch is 'molenaar' not muller.

Anything of this rings any bells with anybody?

thanks and take care

Hello,

My mother's maternal grandparents were Leo and Ida Miller, originally
from Dobromil Poland, now in the Ukraine. Miller, as I've heard was #2
on the Americanized names list. They lost many relatives and friends
to the Nazis, but I am hoping that someone out there is a descedent of
a survivor or someone who left Europe before the war. If you know of
anyone, please contact me.

Marilyn,

My name is Barbara Morgenstern and I am not so sure I will be able to help
you. My Miller is Louis Miller, my husband's maternal grandfather and the
family story is that he left Russia because he did not want to serve in the
military. I have not been able to determine where in Russia he is from. He
also
did not come directly to the United States but through Palestine and Miller
is an assumed name.

I am hoping that I will be able to make it to the New York City Municipal
Archives in the next couple of weeks and get a copy of his marriage certificate
and may know more then.

I am not even sure he became a citizen, so I am not even sure about
naturalization papers.

I am sorry that I can't really help you.

Barbara

Hello Miller Family!!  My name is Michele and I'm in ohio. I want to start off
by telling you a few things about me. I have a little bit of an odd hobby. I
like to collect vintage photographs/ letters/papers anything of age, and then do
research to try to find "KIN" folk to what I have and then send it "home again"
at no charge. I enjoy doing it and have been doing it for several months now. I
honestly don't see any end in sight, which makes me happy.
You should also know that I am in no way related to the Harding/Millard Family.
And the last thing you should know is that the info I'm about to tell you about
is something that "I" personally, am not selling. It's on a site called
shopgoodwill. com That site belongs to all those Goodwill Thrift stores you see
out here across the USA. I do not work for them, not affiliated with them, and
am not selling anything. I just want to be CRYSTAL clear on this. They sell
items on there for helping people in their community and these items are all
donated to them. They have it set up just about like ebay.
Anyway, now that you know my intentions are "innocent", I'll go on.
I was browing through to see if anything caught my eye, and boy did one ever!
Here's what I found concerning the Harding/Millard family.

Vintage 50th Anniversary Photo (4540797)(That's the number in case you want to
view it)
About 8.25in by 10in. Black and white photo of Willis Harding and Eva Millard,
of Lennox Penn on their 50th Wedding anniversary. Taken in 1929. Identifying
note on back. Separation lower left corner of frame. Some rubs on corners of
frame. About .25in chip on frame.
There's another photo showing a slip of paper with this info on it:
Willis R. Harding
Cedar Falls, Iowa
Eva L. Millard
Lennox, PA
50th Wedding Anniversary
Married The Baptist Parsinage
March 26th, 1879 No town given, PA.
I thought it might be worth a shot.
Anyhoo....there you go Harding/Millard Family members. I hope someone find it.

I am going to be unsubscribing from these lovely families though as like I
stated before, I have no Harding/Millards in my family.

Thanks for reading!
Michele in Ohio
