They are ineligible for full benefits regarding the privilege of space-a travel on military aircraft.
The Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs are charged by the 2006 Defense Authorization Act (2006 NDAA, Public Law 109-163) to determine "feasibility of providing transportation on Department of Defense aircraft on a space-available basis" for Retired Reservists under 60 years of age, and for DAV's with 50% or more disability.
Rep. Robert Filner, sponsor of a bill and initiator of inclusion of DAVs into the 2006 NDAA, was elected to the chair by the Democrat majority, of the Veterans committee. His office recently recommitted to reintroduction of the bill for 50% and above DAVs to fly space-a. He is confident of passage. We'll see.
