Description
Forum where skaters can find information on outdoor ice skating and tour skating in the upper Midwest (Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, etc.) on ponds, lakes, natural ice, and especially the canals in Illinois--the Hennepin Canal and I&M Canal.
The conditions can change and the window for skating quality ice can be very short.
Please subscribe and contribute your experience. Ice reports from ice fisherman and pond hockey enthusiasts welcome, but the focus is for ice skating and tour skating.
Whatever the reported experience of a previous skater - always use your own judgment. One of the primary purposes of this group is to connect skaters to facilitate having a buddy system, just one facet of ice safety.

A warm rain is forecast for Friday for the Illinois canals. Not sure if this will wash away the snow and then refreeze with smooth "black ice", or just leave
