Center column, not too far below the VCFE announcement.
Or just click "Visiting" on the nav bar.

Didn't take anywhere near your 2 minutes.

Google Maps is your friend:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=2201+marconi+rd+07719&om=1
(Click "Hybrid" and you'll actually see the site).

I know.  And sometimes the list message appear on the web site but never reach our inboxes at all.  It's a legitimate flaw in the Yahoo system.

When we started this early last year, Andy and I had a discussion about whether to use Yahoo Groups to use something homegrown or to use a typical list server.  I supported Yahoo because it's basically maintenance-free and because it reaches the most people.  I still feel that way.

Have you thought of asking Jay West if he would let us run the email list from his commercial server?  He has said many times that he would host any vintage computer related material for free on his servers.

Need to make room, so I have two Xerox 820-IIs up for offers. You must
pick them up at my house in Woodbridge NJ.

The first one is the 820-II base, keyboard, and a 5.25" dual floppy
drive. This unit has been hacked, and it has a ribbon cable coming out
the back, "for some reason". I think it's for a parallel port of sorts.

The other is just the 820-II base and keyboard. No floppy drive.

You can find abundant info on the web, if you need specs, etc. Contact
me directly, please.

Not formally.  It's important to understand that VCF is an exhibition, not a swap meet.  We'll probably do a real swap meet later this year.

Having said that, if you encounter any b/s/t opportunities, then do it * quietly * and I'll make sure I'm facing the other direction at that moment.

That goes for everyone.

Why not?  This is the perfect opportunity to do some deals... many of the
die-hard vintage collectors are in one place, many having traveled considerable
distances.  Trading/dealing will certainly create incentive for more people to
be there.  Frankly, stating that all I can do is see old machines and not look
for good deals really distracts from the appeal of the whole event.

If the boilerplate is wrong, then ask to get it fixed.  Basically we're advertised
incorrect information, and the first mention about it being wrong is posted to
a mailing list 4 days before the event?

Asking folks to travel back later in the year for a swap meet seems very
disorganized.

If MARCH does VCF next year, can we do a single event with a swap meet
at the same time?  It makes perfect sense and is far more convenient for
everyone.

I'll definitely talk to Sellam about getting the boilerplate text changed.

I didn't mean to say people can not look for good deals, I only meant that it's primarily an exhibition and not a swap meet.  That is the way VCF has traditionally been; it's not us saying it for the first time here.  In the past there's also been a specific vendors area of the show, but this time we don't have the physical space for it.

Keep this in mind also -- attendees can look and ask for deals all they want -- what Sellam wants to prevent is big, blatant "for sale" signs in the main exhibits.  Heck, I sold stuff in my own VCF exhibits in the past.  The key is to keep the sales aspect from becoming dominant over the education / fun / exhibits aspect.

So, that's as best I can explain it: while VCFs in the past have had specific vendor areas, the main show has always been and continues to be an educational and fun exhibit, not a swap meet.  This time we don't have a specific vendor area, so it would understandable if some dealing transpired in the "nudge nudge, wink wink" sense.

My initial idea for a fall swap meet is that it's a nice alternative for people who can't attend the big California show.

We had another work meeting tonight.

Lots got done. I worked on five projects: cleared the small parking area by
the loading ramp, cleared all the junk from the loading ramp itself, marked
the booths with tape on the floor, hung a large retracting screen from the
ceiling in the lecture room, and then cleared / cleaned the lecture room.

The booths and especially the aisles are closer together than I realized
when I designed the layout on paper. Let's just say the aisles are tight!
LOL, so our show will appear to be crowded no matter what. Also, this
morning we squeezed in an 18th exhibitor (actually a vendor) who specializes
in books and random things.

Speaking of vendors -- Carlson Stevens who is showing Japanese videogames is
also technically a vendor -- and our layout happens to have two booths alone
in one corner. So we'll just these two booths together and call that corner
the vendor area.

Jim and Bryan: we'll have to put the MARCH club table in the lobby. There
isn't any room left in the exhibits area.

Fred & Co. are doing more tomorrow. Friday, I'm getting there by 8AM. The
tables are supposed to arrive between 8-10AM. I'll set them up and post
directional signs to guide exhibitors from the main entrance to the loading
ramp. There's still plenty of cleaning to do, but some of the key InfoAge
people who are friends-of-MARCH (such as Steve from NJARC and Dan from the
historic diving club) will be around Friday to help us with whatever's
needed.

I'll set them up and post
directional signs to guide exhibitors from the main entrance to the loading
ramp.  There's still plenty of cleaning to do, but some of the key InfoAge
people who are friends-of-MARCH (such as Steve from NJARC and Dan from the
historic diving club) will be around Friday to help us with whatever's
needed.
