I have a bootstrap procedure with octoal code listing, and the Reportoire
of Instructions for the 1219/MK 152. This may be adaptable for the
1219-II, but the memory location may be different. Quite a project.

Does what you have look like this?

The shipboard fire control program was developed at JHU APL so I sure what they had would be compatible.

Yes same footprint, but we have the 1219-II. I assume the newer model is
more or less a compatible upgrade.

Generally speaking, yes, I recall that's what we have (x2), plus the other

Hmmm ... I wonder if ours was used for development.

The idea of theft disgusts me. I am a bit shocked to hear that someone would
steal such art, then again, there's been art thieves almost as long as there's
been art. I just thought there would be more honour amongst vintage
computer/electronics geeks.

Please tell me, does this sort of thing happen regularly?

Cheers,
Josh

I have heard of a few things that disappeared from various collections
(and I will not comment further). I even see theft every year, when
someone needs a discount from my hamfest table, when I am not around.
I have even caught a few red handed.

Anyway, Claude's machine was kept in the house, which did not burn,
but who knows - he was not exact Mr. Organization.

Well at least you have the picture from my site for reference, should you
come across one on Ebay... Dave reminded me about the fact that it was the
boards that were missing, meaning that he misplaced or whatever before TCF
2008, they could be long gone by now.

Subject: Repair of MARCH Commodore PET 2001 chiclet keyboard

Send Email Send Email

I am working on getting MARCH’s Commodore PET 2001 chiclet keyboard working again. There were some keys that were not working.

I disassembled it and cleaned it. But some of the keys still didn’t work properly. I noticed that some of the keys had something metallic on the bottom of them and others didn’t. It appeared to be random. Talking to Dan Wobser and to Ian Primus, I found out that the rubber in the keys is a sorta conductive silicon. My suspicion is that this silicon becomes less conductive over time or is not reliable to being with. It seems that the previous owner had fixed some keys by adding some metal to the bottom of the keys.  I’m not sure what kind of metal it is.

When I replaced one of the keys with the thin metal on the bottom to previously not working key, then it worked.

I have had a devil of time trying to find info on repairing Commodore PET 2001 chiclet keyboards. I find other info, but nothing specific about what I am looking for. I looked on vintage-computer.com, but I have not found anything useful.

But they require a minimum order of $25, so I don’t want to buy three of these $9.99 things.

I posted this on cc cmp and got this response:

Green Brook Electronics 269 US Hwy 22, Green Brook, New Jersey, 08812 Phone: 732-968-3500
Fax: 732-968-3378
I plan on going to the one in Hazlet on Sunday to pick it up.

I still wish I knew what kind of rubber the key was made of and what the metal foil is made of that was added to the bottom of it. It could be silver for all I know. It is very difficult to find specific information about this keyboard and it’s material and repair.

What exactly are included in those "basics" ? plates ? nakins ? ketchup ?
which non-alcoholic beverages ? I was thinking about bringing a case of
water and some coke zero. maybe some yuengling lager lite and maybe a bottle
of whiskey.

Ian Primus, are you bringing your video games and tvs ?

Corey, are you bringing your tv ?

I'm wondering who is bringing what entertainment system.

Also is the room ready for us to use (i.e. does it need cleaning or cleaning
out of junk ) ? How many tables will we need etc. ?

Perhaps you should make a list of what is needed, so that others can tell us
what they will bring ? Last year I made a list of what people can bring and
are bringing on google docs. Like so:

I'm impressed with your dedication to this project! Make sure that store is open

If the effort vs. results becomes too much, you could consider swapping a
keyboard from one of our other PETs.

Yes. In my family we had a Santa Claus made from folded
punch cards. Unlike that wreath, the cards were used
(punched). The punch holes gave a more lacey effect. It
was about 18 inches tall. I think my grandmother made it.
It was the holiday centerpiece at our house for a number
of years. It was damaged in a move and discarded before
I got into computers as a young teenager. I wish I had it
now.

I visited Claude several years ago specifically to copy the ROMs in the MCB8
system (it's actually pictured in his Reckoner article) and there were no boards
in it then. At that time he said that he had lent the boards to someone. Maybe
when they never came back, he called them stolen. Maybe he just forgot ...

Will, this was the time frame when I was working with RCSRI and the weasel to
try to find a home for the Burroughs. Might have even been pre-MARCH timeframe?

Man!  Wouldn’t you love to be able to reassemble that data center?  The model railroad guys

will  run a day on their tracks, moving “cargo” and “passengers” around.  Imagine gathering up

the volunteers to fully “staff” that facility and running a day’s jobs.

We have more than one chicklet keyboard at MARCH? There have been a few threads
and documents on the web, cctalk and vintage-computer.com in particular, that
detail how to restore a chicklet keyboard. I personally have not done this work
before but maybe I have something in my stuff about it.

MARCH formed from summer '04 through spring '05.

If I look through my email, I could probably get an early date benchmark.

My guess is also that it is 2007 or 2008. Long gone by now.
