Also, the Akai S-612 sampler used that type disk to hold audio
samples. They called it a "QuickDisk". IIRC, it holds 64K, and uses
a single spiral track. It's designed to be two-sided, and no
modifications are needed to the disk (as was done with 5.25" floppies
with a notcher, to make them two-sided).

The Roland S-10, and MKS-100 samplers use these size disks.  I have a bunch of them.

Unfortunately, the belt (more like circular rubber band) on my 2.8 disk drive in my sampler broke, turned to goo, and gummed up the drive, making it difficult to fix.

So I was having a conversation with Evan Koblentz and he noticed my Verizon Razzle phone (http://cnettv.cnet.com/verizon-razzle/9742-1_53-50078025.html a feature phone). He said, “When are you going to get rid of that toy phone and get a *real* phone (i.e. A smart phone)”. I said, “Are you going to pay for my data plan ? He said, “Yes, anything to get rid of that silly phone ! I’m embarrassed to be seen in front my nerd friends with someone with such a wimpy phone”.

So he’s going to pay for my data plan and I have find a phone. What a nice guy !  I have Verizon now, so when my plan renews in February I will be shopping around.

Wislist:
1) More message memory (I’m tired of my phone telling me to delete messages all the time)
2) A decent camera
3) E-mail capability
4) Web Browsing capability.
5) Video capability would be nice.

There seems to be different ideas on what is best. iPhone, Android, Blackberry.

Anyone have any thoughts on the best way to decide ?

Now that Base of Terror is over. The next time I am at Infoage I will start
getting the Telecom building ready and cleaned up for our party. Maybe Nov.
13.

I started a google docs spreadsheet for what everyone is bringing.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aot1Lys9TBOPdG4yczNPNFR1Z2hDT3pmWVd\
la1BqZ1E
(small URL: http://urql.com/gvzv) I figured this is a great way to get
organized.

Also another google spreadsheet for what items people will be brining:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aot1Lys9TBOPdGsxaDlkeW44WE1ldzhUYU9\
PVG14aFE
(small URL: http://urql.com/hgdv)

We won't be using a charcoal grill this time, but will use a propane one. It
will allow for fast startup at any time during the party.

I'd like to get as much set up as possible by the end of November because I
won't be able to do anything the weekend before the party. So I hope
everyone will let me know if there is anything they need set up ahead of
time.

With their computer controlled embroidery machines Brother (Babylock) used a particular
memory card and I cannot find out what the format for that card is called.  It is too long for
an SD and is a double row of pins, I'd estimate about twenty on each side.
Any information would be appreciated as my wife would like to get the machine working

"So, the lens is a 3.85 mm f/2.8 lens.
This corresponds to 35mm film camera equivalent lens of 29.4mm f/21.4."

iPhone 4 main camera:

     * 5.0 Mpixels (2592 x 1936)
     * 1/3.2" back-illuminated CMOS sensor
     * 4:3 aspect ratio
     * 35 mm film camera crop factor: 7.64
     * Low ISO 80 (or better)
     * 3.85 mm lens focal length
     * f/2.8 lens aperture
     * Autofocus: tap to focus

Equivalent 35mm film camera and lens:

     * 30 mm f/22

f/22!!! Gack! I hope it's one hell of a bright sunny day when you use it!

A 5x 'digital' zoom at full zoom leaves you with an equivalent of 520x380
resolution. That's akin to YouTube Flash video "quality."

OK, as a part-time professional photographer, I'd not want to use it but I
suppose to snap a sexting shot from under a restroom stall wall it'd be OK.

Go out to dinner or lunch with Evan and bring a really old cell phone with
you and then he will make you a deal ;)

Ok. So I had the day off, and some free time. Went to the Verizon store. The
sales guy there liked the iPhone. Went to the Staples and the sales girl
like the droid. So I got two very different, but strong opinions about both.
One issue that come up was the battery. You can replace with the droid. With
the iPhone you have to replace the whole phone. The general impression that
I get is that the iPhone is more staple, but less apps. The Droid is less
stable, but more apps. I will do more research and keep asking questions, as
I keep discovering new things that I never considered before. Such as hands
free devices, included or not, compatible with my FM hands free device or
not. But I really have to say that the iPhone 4S feature of voice
recognition (Siri) is really cool ! I will decide by February when my
contract renews.

    Untrue; I've replaced many iPhone batteries. It's just not a "user"
thing.

> The general impression that I get is that the iPhone is more staple,
> but less apps.> The Droid is less stable, but more apps.

    True, and not so true. (I have both an iPhone and an Android-based
tablet) I've found there are just as many apps in iPhone-land, but they
tend to be of FAR higher quality overall.

    Many Android users (including myself when using my tablet) experience
occasional "FCs" ("Force Closes"), which is what happens when an app
crashes. This happens to me several times per week when regularly using
my (otherwise loved) tablet. In nearly two years of heavy iPhone use,
I've seen it precisely once.

    iOS is a nicer, more stable, faster, more polished OS overall, by a
good margin. Android is a more open, more accessible, more capable OS
overall, also by a good margin. It depends on where your priorities are.

    Siri runs on standard iPhone 4 (non-4S) now as well, though not
"officially", FYI. To me, the best thing that the 4S does is push down
the prices on the 4.

I stated that in my first e-mail:

Wislist:
1) More message memory (I’m tired of my phone telling me to delete messages
all the time)
2) A decent camera
3) E-mail capability
4) Web Browsing capability.
5) Video capability would be nice.

How do I use it now:
I mostly use text messaging. I use the phone to call people, but try to
limit it as it is expensive (I share a plan with two others and there is a
limited amount of minutes available to us all). I receive calls and use my
FM transmitter while driving so that I can drive hands free and control the
volume. I mostly use my phone for work. Text messaging is always
overflowing. The video camera has been very handy to take pictures at
various times, when I forgot the "regular" camera. I'd like to use e-mail
and web so that I can do it from anywhere, not just at the office. I also
have started using the calendar and trying to keep a schedule with reminders
etc. I would like to keep the price down as much as possible.
