I am today contacting the a leading expert in the formal analysis of aviation
accident reports, Professor Peter B.Ladkin PhD, to see if he can venture an
opinion on the quality of the AAIB report.
He heads up the RVS Group at Bielefeld University's Faculty of Technology (in
german: AG RVS - Arbeitsgruppe Rechnernetze und Verteilte Systeme) which was
established on January 1, 1995.
The RVS Group performs research and teaching in:
- Failure analysis and accident analysis of complex, heterogeneous, open systems
- System safety analysis and forward engineering
- Specification and verification of system requirements, designs and
implementations
- Computer and telecommunications networking, particularly practical security
Peter Ladkin is the developer of the formal and semi-formal failure and accident
method Why-Because-Analysis (WBA), which has been used to analyse commercial
aviation and railway accidents, as well as a friendly-fire accident and a cruise
ship grounding, and computer security incidents. The group proposes Ontological
Analysis, which incorporates causal system analysis, for safety requirements
elicitation, specification and analysis.
Have a look at their Computer-Related Incidents with Commercial Aircraft page at
http://www.rvs.uni-bielefeld.de/publications/compendium/incidents_and_accidents/\
index.html
While it is not my place to perhaps suggest this, maybe the funds we do have
available could be used to consult this most expert of all expert witnesses.

I don't dissagree with what you have said and I agree that it would be
wrong to spend the entire fund on any single cause.
The fund, as far as I can tell, has no defined boundaries. It is
called the BMAA Members Fighting Fund and is there to fight for things
affecting BMAA members. This is one such thing and is a valid
conduit for *some* of the fund.
I do not attempt to decide how much.
