I have many quedtions about MI group of model horse collectors and as a new
member to this list I answered a post last night but I think it went to the
author...OOPS:)
I introduced myself to the author who posted a question about a Traverse
City show...sorry!:)
I would love to go to that ...does the MI group meet anywhere...in person?
I should try this intro again since I read the Insomniac's Intro...
Hi Cheryl and all!
Wow How many of you have REAL horses? I did but not now -sob- I work with
spanish normans...a warmblood combination of percheron and
andaluisian...look for some resin creations of those in the future as I am
a full -time sculptor, working mostly in bronze but now this resin stuff
seems like it has real possiblities!
I started in this hobby back when I was a kid in the 70's ..still a kid now
but a little older 35.
Nice to read the intro by Cheryl and wish to hear from other members.
thanks for listening!
Best, Maureen

Hi all!
Can't sleep, so I'll do my intro...
For those who DON'T know me...My name is Cheryl (Hertzfeld) Monroe, and
I've been collecting model horse shaped objects since 1966. Not to vane to
mention my age - 38! My first model-horse publication was ALSO MHSJ, I
subbed somewhere around 1975-76 ish. was AMAZED at the scope of this
fascinatin' hobby and friendly, helpful folks! My "herd" consists of a
WIDE variety of manufacturers, and approx. 500 or so, give or take a 100
(WHO KNOWS, I can't even find all of 'em!) Anyone who's been here is
laughing there butts off! :>)
I'm married to a great man, albeit a bit spoiled, but, after all, I guess
he's worth it! Lets me buy leetle plastic horseys and go to Breyerfest!
We own a house in the country with 10 acres, 3 horses (ALL FAT AND
SPOILED!), and 6 indoor-only VERY SPOILED cats! I enjoy live AND
photo-showing (although I haven't done the later in a few years....) making
my own model-stuff, and judging model shows. I ALSO enjoy non-model
related items like, crafting, fishing, historical research, genealogy,
reading, STAR TREK, the X-FILES and Babylon 5!
MISSED the Draft horse show, was working, and taking hubby to Dr. For
those concerned, yes he is now legally blind. 20-200 vision is considered
legally blind, and his vision worsens every day.....oh, well, chin up and
all.....
Well, that does ME for y'all.....NEXT?!

Making me feel guilty, not contributing to the little Group we've got here! At
least now we can talk about Lois for a month or so w/o her knowing about it,
heee ...Lisa wouldn't DREAM of printing out things & hand-delivering them, oh,
nooo!
Anyone up to anything interesting other than Lois' new house & Lisa's new
kitchen? My chicken herd is up to laying 17 eggs a day, at least THEY can
support themselves, unlike the models! I hope we get SLAMMED w/the worst
winter in decades so I'll be snowed in & can work on that cupboard of bodies I
have stored up, and earn some Breyerfest money for next year! Just finished
"balancing" (ha) my checking account & it seemed awfully off-balance in the
direction of models and model-related things. Not a good sign!!
Speaking of Winter, who-all would maybe be interested in attending a live show
if it were held in Traverse City in, oh, say late February? Am toying w/the
idea, it wouldn't be anything fancy, probably recycled ribbons even w/a lot of
local newbies in attendance, and a NON-Qualifier ;-) to boot. I figure people
will be so bored out of their skulls they'll jump at ANY opportunity, even the
local newbies.
Keep warm,

Hi all! Wow! I don't get to my mail often, but I only have one post after
4 days of not checking my e-mail! I promise to try and write more often!
Lois Thomas asked me to notify everyone that she had a major computer
crash, and probably won't be on-line for a while, maybe not until after she
moves into her new house. If you need to reach her, call her at her home
or write to her. If you need her phone or address, I can send it to
whoever asks for it. Thanks!
We have been remodeling the kitchen, and it is going slowly. Had the
floor put in for the second time (the floor guys put it in crooked the
first time-eeewwwww!) Most of the cabinets are in, but we are impatiently
waiting for the counter tops to get here. Finally got the oven put back
in. So, that means that all of my model work is coming along very slowly,
too! I have a backlog again, but I am itchin' to get back to paintin', and
that means I will truley be inspired! Well, I will write again later-gotta
wade through the mail, and at least clean up the computer! Take care-Lisa

Is everyone still out there? We have a few new subscribers, so why doesn't
everyone introduce themselves? Tell who you are, how long you've been into
models, and what your favorite part of the model horse hobby is. I already did,
so--next!
Me, I've been flying almost every night this week! We're going to stay in the
air while the weather lasts <g> I have fun spotting horse farms and racetracks
from the air--saw them running at Northville Downs last night!
Also, we have a new subscriber who is interested in a listing of live shows. I
was trying to find the NAMSA page for her and don't have it bookmarked. Would
some kind soul please post it here?
Although it looks like the live show season is over in this region... sigh...

I wish I could have gone...but instead, I got an early start on what I
presume will be a long winter of no live shows! Lisa and the other entrants
subbed to the list (and the judges, if they are comfortable with it) - what
horses particularly captured your eye? Please debrief me...

Okay, guess I'd better give my GLMHA report...
Pretty cool...wish I'd been able to get a hotel ahead of it, though,
instead of waking up at 5 am to leave from home...ugh. The performance
division was amazing; anyone who got a qualification out of that *earned*
it! Wow...halter was equally impressive. I managed to get a share of
the ribbons, though<g>, I'm all proud of my little babies! The Infinity
I painted(the appy one...the*really* appy one)even placed tenth in the CM
by owner class(and there were more than ten in the class! Yippee!)!
Had an interesting experience...I have this lovely little TB by D'Arry
Frank that I bought from Ann Bilon. I was putting her on the table for
her breed class when D'Arry came up and said, "Hey, I recognize that
horse!". Ann recognized her too, and both were happy to hear she was
still doing well(I don't know when she was created, but I guess it was a
fair number of years ago). She took first in that class<g>. NAN, here I
come!
Thanx, Lois, for yet another fantastic show, keep 'em coming!
I heard something about GLMHA Lansing not being a NAN-qualifier next
year; is it true(oh, say it ain't so!)? I was really looking forward to
that, as I'm currently stationed in East Lansing! Apart from that, are
there any more MI shows coming up? I'm trying to convince my dad that
the horse showing thing won't distract me from my studies, but he's still
wary(I think he hoped that college would put a hold on the horse
stuff...hehehe...right).
Well, that's my pitiful fragmented post; someone else's turn now!

Hi Everyone!!!!
Want to post this to the Group, I only recieved the message from Susan
telling about still being out there-where is everyone? Hello? ello? llo?
lo? o? ?
Had lots of fun at the GLMHA Live, its always a fun show, and the
competition is heart stopping! Not too different from being a mini NAN
show, in my opinion! Got my butt kicked by some models that I don't mind
being beat by at all.
Anyways, lets get this ball rolling again-I like to actually read from
people that I know personally-puts a face to the words! Ya'll take care!

For everyone who asked me what was up with this list at the GLMHA Fall Classic,
this is the message to affirm that the list is still up and running.
And a big "HI!" to everyone who was at the GLMHA Fall Classic--what a blast!
Thanks for a great time, Lois, and for putting up with me & Sue <g> It was a
great show with lots of divisions but not rushed or frantic. Besides having a
blast hanging out and visiting with everyone, I was DETERMINED to have that Lisa
Rivera repaint auction piece (the "Extended Credit" resin in a *gorgeous* bay
tobiano) and I'll be darned but if I didn't GET it! I was more surprised than
anyone, because every other time I've bid on an auction item the bidding has
gone over my self-imposed stopping point. I was also tickled to FINALLY find
the original sorrel Lady Phase I've been hunting for to etch--I wanted one that
was slightly beat-up but in good enough condition that etching it would be
feasible. The one I got has a few rubs and seams but nothing I can't work with.
I have two others and one is too NICE of condition to etch, the other has too
many seams. Now I have something to do during the slow parts of the hockey
games this year--GO WINGS! :-)
Now, folks, YOUR turn! The list can't run without posts!

Anyone waiting to hear from me--I always feel guilty going more than a
day w/out answering Email!--I will be getting to your msg in the next
few days.
I spent the whole weekend FLYING! My boyfriend got his private pilot's
license (VFR) last Thursday, and we have gone up almost every day since,
except Fri. afternoon--the planes were booked <g>. We fly a Piper
Cherokee Warrior (4-seater), and have been exploring Michigan all
weekend. I know, I know, I should be working on customs, but I just
can't resist flying with him! (For those of you who fly in small
planes, you KNOW what I mean!) And if you live in mid-Michigan and see
a small blue-and-white low-wing Piper zoom overhead, there's a good
chance it could be us--I don't like to go too high so he keeps us as low
as safety allows. Today we flew round-trip from Detroit to Mackinac and
back at about 2500 feet from the ground, and I spotted TONS of horse
farms <g>
I'm sure we'll taper off soon, but for now all we want to do is FLY,
FLY, FLY! I am going to try to make it to Bluegrass Live via this mode
of transportation, though a lot depends on the weather. But next summer
I'm going to try and hit live shows within 1500 miles or so--my
boyfriend should have his IFR license by then and weather won't stop
us... within reason, of course <g> The GREAT thing is, he's agreed to
fly me to shows just to get the hours! Hehe!
Thanks for everyone's patience! And I *did* try to stay on-topic <g>

Who else felt the earthquake today?! It happened in OH/PA but we felt it here
in the Detroit area. I was riding home from work with a friend and we were
stopped in a traffic jam. We both felt it, looked at each other, and shrugged.
"Train," I said, since we were right near an overpass. I didn't know it was an
earthquake until I got home!

Okay...my name's Miranda, I'm 18 years old(yeah, I know, one of those

freshman year w/my AP credits from high school)at MSU(Michigan State
University, but you all knew that<g>). Umm...I've got an Infinity resin
up here that I'm hoping to have painted(black leopard appy)by Midland.
It makes an interesting conversation piece when you paint w/your door
open. It'll get even better when I start detailing her: "Oh, my god,
you're speckling that horse's crotch!" They don't understand...ah, let's
see. I live with two live plants and two live fish(despite their better
efforts and the fact that one recently decided to try and *eat* his
tankmate! Eeg!), oh, yeah, and a roommate who has learned to accept the
horses thing but doesn't want to know all the sordid details(like
breeding<g>).
Normally, I'd live in Bloomfield Hills, and I would have gone to Angie's
show but it "might have detracted from my studies" and seeing as I'm
getting myself all set up I don't want to waste my weekends away at horse
shows(granted, what most people I've seen do w/their weekends is far less
savory than horse showing, but hey...). So, I'm all hyped up for
Midland; I've entered too much in performance and everything(that's how I
do a show up *right*!<g>). Hmm...I guess that's all the list can stand
for now, so someone else can go!

Elizabeth, I see you at enough live shows that you'd qualify for the list even
if I wasn't allowing people who didn't live in MI :-)

Hehe--you, me and Maurice, inhaling the Air Of Our Native Planet :-) We never
did have time to get together and see about a trade! That was a great show, but
it did move awfully fast. What was funny was that when it got over early, both
Dawn and I didn't rush home because we didn't want our Other Halves to know we
could get back that early <G> I know my boyfriend used to complain when I
didn't get home from some live shows until midnight, but I finally got him used
to it. And I was afraid that if I got home early, he'd start up again the next
time I'm late :-D

Okay-dokey, I'll start the ball rolling by introducing myself, though most of
you know me by now :-)
I'm 37 years old, live in Hazel Park (less than a mile outside Detroit!), and
have been collecting on-and-off since I was 13. I've lived in MI most of my
life, though I have spent a year each living in Montreal and Wheeling, WV.
Right now I work as a computer technician for the Ingersoll-Rand company in
Farmington Hills (no, we don't make maps, we make air compressors and assembly
lines for the Big Three) to put food in the gobbling mouths of my two teenage
sons.
I hit every live show I can, and my favorite things about models besides live
showing are customizing and pedigree assignment. Right now I don't really
collect OFs, I mostly try to pick up "dinged" ones to customize though I have
recently been getting a few SRs and OFs that I just like the way they are. But
watch out--if it's OF and even slightly rubbed, I will probably take dremel and
paint to it!
Next...?
Suzanne
PS. If anyone has a used car for sale, contact me privately! Mine died and I
am looking :-)

Heh heh heh, be afraid, be VERY afraid <G>
I'm rather bummed that this is probably the last live show of the year, though I
may also go to Bluegrass Live if the weather holds. But after reading on the
Haynet how other states only have one live show a year if that, I sure can't
complain about how many of them there are around here! It seems to be just
about the right amount that I can handle.

I'm on this list - and I'm illegal, sorta. As some of you know, I live in
Chi-caw-go now (that's the illegal part) although in my heart, I'm a
lifelong Michigander (this is the "sorta" part). Sadly, the "illegal"
element will prevent me from attending Lois' show - the drive from Chicago
is more than I think I can undertake the weekend of the Tenth. However, I
expect reports to this list from those of you going, if feasible.
I will be at Wild Oats Live in Libertyville, Illinois this weekend (hour
north of Chicago) - anyone from MI able to make the trip (aside from Barb
Ness, who I know is going)? I'm only taking a couple of models because I
overdosed on them at Angie's show completely, and ended up running back and
forth between the show ring so much that I didn't get to introduce myself or
talk to anybody except Suzanne (who I saw only on coordinated smoke breaks,
actually).

So who-all is on this list besides me & Suzanne McAllister (and as Lois, Angie
& Barb and Cheryl know, that's a DANGEROUS combination to be left all
alone!!). I hope we all support it, as it'll be a godsend this winter when
we're all snowed in our homes due to La Nina!!
I'll def. be coming to Lois' Fall Classic, and will be bringing an oh-so-
special Entry with me! ;-)
Frost warnings tonight, everyone stay warm!

So who is going to the GLMHA Fall Classic on the 10th? I thought that this
would be my last live show of the year, but it looks like my boyfriend might be
flying me down to Bluegrass Live if he gets his private pilot's license on
Thursday! Cross fingers, he takes his checkride then :-)

Hello, and welcome to the Michigan Model Horse Collector's Discussion List.
This list is intended for collectors who live in Michigan only, though I don't
plan to enforce that rule too strictly as long as there aren't too many
off-topic posts sent in.
This is a moderated list. Every post is sent to me before being passed along to
the List. Please keep this in mind before posting.
Otherwise, enjoy and please join in the discussions! I would appreciate posts
on upcoming live shows, sales at stores known to carry models, and anything
related.
Please introduce yourself!
Suzanne McAllister
