Drinking great Pinot Noir often reminds me of the first time I jumped into a fancy bed dressed with satin sheets and slid out on the other side,  like in a 3 Stooges comic routine from my childhood.  When it's great, its silky and smooth and an ethereal experience.  Come try a bevy of new wines that will make your tongue feel like it's got its own satin flowing around it. .

Crocker Star "Bridesmaid", Proprietary Red, Napa Valley 2006

Bridesmaid is a joint project by friends, Pam Starr and Drew Neiman, two of Napa Valley's premier winemakers. Before starting Crocker & Starr, she also became consulting winemaker for Gemstone and was with them until the completion of the 2004 vintage. Drew established Neiman Cellars in 1997 and has done stints at Newton, Kongsgaard, and Chateau Boswell.

Each year, Pam and Drew contact fellow rock star winemakers in the Valley in search of small lots and unique barrels of wine. As those in the wine business know, not all wine made goes into the final blend, and there's often excess juice-so what better to do with it than blend it up? As mixologists, they create two blends from some of the most revered Napa Valley vineyards whose sources are known only to Pam and Drew. These are winemaker's wines to please the most discriminating palates.

Dark Dark Dark color, juicy berry nose, bit of oak. It looks and smells wonderful. The taste is a rich deep dark juicy fruit, licorice and black cherry cola, chocolate. Oak and toast come out of the Napa monster of a wine. The long lasting tannins on this wine are great. All your friends who say they like big, fruity, tannic, Napa Cabs, this is the wine. The price is right its a great bottle of wine.

Two Blind Tastings: Monday Evenings and Tuesday Afternoons – Must RSVP

The Wine Shoppe and Sommeliers Tim Knapp and Scott Carter Host our Monday Night Blind November 30th @ 6:30 PM (Sharp) and Blind Tuesday Afternoons December 1st @ 11:30 AM Wine Tastings.

Want to know how we do it, check this link: http://www.amateurgastronomer.com/weblog/2009/05/tuesday-blind-tastings/

Blind tastings are a fun way to learn and test your palate. You can discuss with everyone about the smell, color, body and taste of wines without a preconceived idea of the wines.

If you have never been to a blind tasting you shouldn’t miss it; your palate is tested and you really have to think about what the wine, the grapes, the region, etc.

It’s really great FUN and a learning experience.

We will taste four wines, two whites and two reds. The format is that the price will be shared by all attendees and keeping it affordable – it will never exceed $15.00; the more people the better wines we can taste. There is a space limit of 12 people.

The featured wines can be bought afterwards at a 10% off regular price discount.

Please RSVP to the phone number below or reply to this e-mail, space is very limited.

Cheers,

WOLFE'S WINE SHOPPE TOP 10 WINES OF 2009

#1  La Granacha Cotes du Rhone Villages 2009

La granacha

100% Grenache cuvee from old vines, which comes from an organically farmed parcel, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered with no SO2 additions. Deep ruby to the rim, with beautiful aromas of kirsch liqueur, melted licorice, ground pepper, and garrigue, it is a superb, full-bodied effort with terrific precision, definition, & concentration.
WWS: $16.00

#2 Graham Beck Brut Rose NV

graham beck rose

Great salmon pink in color makes this wine look extremely attractive.  Noticeable ripe strawberries from the Pinot Noir with a creamy complexity from the Chardonnay. An explosion of raspberry fruit together with some fresh sherbet on the palate with a long fine creamy mousse

WWS$15.00

#3 Edge Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa 2007

edge

Napa Valley Cabernet for under twenty-five bucks. Go back and read that sentence again, because it's not a misprint. Try finding one worth drinking for that price, let alone one that actually drinks well. Want a mouthful of dark Cab berry fruit with some spice-box and oak toast and feel like you're getting away with larceny? This is our insider trading special without the potential new friends to be made in federal prison. You can thank us later!

WWS $24.50

#4 Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon Macon Clos de la Crochette 2007

Aubry Rose

This is considered to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest Chardonnay growing site in the world.
Located in the village where the Cluny monks first planted the varetal, this is the finest vineyard in the area. The perfect mix of clay and limestone combined with a medium steep slope and good eastern exposure, you can feel the history here as you walk through the vineyard. The wine is very poised and possesses that perfect balance of crips acidity, good mineral backbone, and a very intense long mouthfeel. The fruit shows boyth ripe apples and citrus and just a little spice

WWS$ 29.00

#5  Segeshio Zinfandel Sonoma 2008

Seghesio

Spicy undertones mark wine with a vibrant display of acidity that enhances the briary raspberry and blackberry varietal expression. Lush, velvety mouth feel interwoven with fine, integrated tannins creates a smooth richness. Full-bodied, juicy mid-palate with Seghesio "balance."

WWS $28.00

#6  Alvaro Castro Quinta de Pelleda 2005

Alvaro Castro

A blend of Touriga Nacional (60%), Tinta Roriz (20%) and a field blend for the remainder. This is essentially a Reserva, a flagship wine, It is elegant, but exuberant, fruity and bursting with flavor, yet bright, with good acidity and superb structure. This is a wine that shows off the elegance of the region, while remaining persistent on the palate.

WWS $28.00

#7 Hacienda Monasterio Ribera del Duero Riserva 2004

Hacienda RSV

2004 was a magical vintage in Spain. The Reserva Especial is full-bodied and elegant, with aromas and flavors of cedar wood, smoky tobacco, black currants, roasted meats, and herbsopulence.
WWS $84.00

#8 Domaine Zind Humbrecht Riesling Brand SGN 2006

ZH

Apricot preserves, candied violets, licorice, marzipan, rowan, gardenia, white raisin, and tangerine mark both the nose and palate of the Brand Selection Grains Nobles a wine of enormous botrytized ripeness, high acidity, and low alcohol. Watch your dental work!

WWS $ 130.00

#9 Alban Vognier Cental Coast 2007

Alban Viognier 2

Intense and fragrant, with a great balance between ripe, lush peach, citrus and tropical fruit flavors and sophisticated tobacco, mineral and spice notes. The flavors gain momentum on the finish

WWS $ 32.00

#10 La Conreria d'Scala Dei, Les Brugueres, Priorat 2008

Les Brugueres

Grenache Blanc: One of the region's premier white wines, Les Brugueres is produced from 100% Garnacha Blanca from a single vineyard with 100+-year-old vines planted in Priorat's famous llicorella soil. The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks and is left on its fine lees to impart a creamy texture and complexity.  Fresh and exciting the most thought provoking white wine in the shoppe

WWS $32.00

The Wine Shoppe and Antares Wines Invite You to Taste The Wines of PASQUA from Italy this Friday November 20th from 6 to 9 PM

We will TAste the following wines:

    Pinot Grigio-Garganega

Pasqua Pinot Grigio-Garganega (IGT Venezie) is a fruity and flavorful wine made from Pinot Grigio and Garganega grapes, from the San Felice vineyards, north part of Verona in Italy (Veneto region). It releases hints of citrus and floral notes. Fresh, round, well-balanced in the mouth.

Enjoyable as an aperitif or with starters, fresh pasta, fish dishes or white meat. Serve between 50 and 55oF

    Bardolino

Bardolino DOC is a blend of Corvina Veronese, Rondinella, Molinara grapes from the vineyards located on the hills of Bardolino, on the south-eastern shore of lake Garda (Province of Verona, Italy), which offers an ideal microclimate for maturing grapes.

Ruby red wine with fragrances of currants and cherries. On the palate, the wine is fruity, well-balanced, with medium structure. Pairs well with savory Italian pasta dishes, vegetable entres, meat dishes and fresh cheeses. To be served cool at 60°-65° F.

    Lapaccio Primitivo Salento

Lapaccio Primitivo Salento is made from 100% Primitivo from the Manduria vineyards in Apulia region in southeastern Italy bordering the Adriatic Sea in the east.

A wine with a deep red color. A warm nose that reveals intense cherry and plum aromas. Rich and harmonious on the palate. Ideal for tasty pasta, grilled meats and seasoned cheeses. Serve at 60-65°F.

    Le Soraie

Le Soraie is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Corvina grapes from the San Felice vineyards, east of Valpolicella, the area called Valpantena (north part of Verona, Italy). The grapes are hand harvested with great care and left for 3 months on wooden trays to dry and gain in sugar concentration. The vinification process takes place in separate steel tanks for 20 days. The malolactic fermentation follows to harmonize and soften the wine. Fining in oak barrels for 6 months and a year in bottle.

Deep ruby red in color. The nose has intense aromas of plum and red berries intertwined by hints of spice and vanilla. The palate is balanced and well integrated with soft tanning and a soft lingering finish. Pairs well with red meat and game or with aged cheese

    Amarone Villa Borghetti

Amarone Villa Borghetti DOC is a typically rich Italian dry red wine made from the partially dried grapes of Corvina, Rondinella, and Negrara grapes grown in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico vineyard (province of Verona, Italy, east of Lake Garda).

Amarone is a noble wine. The grapes are harvested by hand and left to raisin in wooden crates for 5 months. After sun-drying, the high sugar concentration is extracted and the juice is fermented for 30 days. A malolactic fermentation follows. The wine ages for 18 months in barrels, before bottling. Fining in bottle for 12 months. A vigorous, full-bodied, deep red wine. Vibrant fragrances of currants, blackberries and sweet almonds on the nose, with notes of vanilla. Warm and rich, with polished, silky tannins and a long finish. Excellent with grilled red meat, rich wild game, and cheeses.

Zinfandel is the all-american wine, since just about all the commercial production of the grape takes place in California. These deep, dark reds work beautifully with that all-American meal, the Thanksgiving turkey dinner. However there are plenty of other dynamic grapes that make themselves suitable for a place at the turkey table. We will get you thinking outside the box for your holiday meal.

    PLEASE READ!
Two Blind Tastings: Monday Evenings and Tuesday Afternoons – Must RSVP

This Monday Night Blind Tasting will have a special format – the Tuesday Afternoon one will remain the same – read below:

This Monday we will do an ALL WHITE WINE BLIND TASTING. Each person (or couple) will set up with Ozzy at The Wine Shoppe the wine you want to taste; so you can buy your own wine at whatever price you want. You can choose just the type or the particular wine with Ozzy – You should call early so the wine can be cooled down, or you can arrive and pick from the wines in the refrigerator. The wines will be double bagged so you won’t even know when you will be tasting your chosen wine.

We’re doing this to make it more interesting and exciting.

Please RSVP as soon as you can! And have your choice wine picked.

Tasting will have a “Monday Night Blind” and “Blind Tuesday Afternoons” and Having Fun Learning about Wine.

The Wine Shoppe and Sommeliers Tim Knapp and Scott Carter Host our Monday Night Blind November 16th @ 6:30 PM (SHARP) and Blind Tuesday Afternoons November 17th @ 11:30 AM Wine Tastings.

    Cheers,

     Ozzy Riverol
