"This is a new International Metis Women's group open to all Metis women who are interested in uniting to form a politically active group which supports the international recognition of all Metis everywhere --- regardless of tribal or nation affiliation (or the formal lack of the same.) If you are Metis in your heart and spirit, if you are a woman, if you think the time has come for the people who survived physical and polticial genocide to come together in unity to create a peaceful force for change --- we need you and you are most very welcome."

The above words are the description of the reason for forming this "Council" so our goal is working toward the international recognition of the Metis People. Metis is a French word meaning "mixed" and applies to people whose heritage is Native American mixed with any other ethnic bloodlines. Anyone who is female and who supports our efforts is welcome to join us. You don't need to be a "card-carrying" member of any indigenous nation, Metis or otherwise. Members of federal, state or provincial "recognized" tribes are also welcome. We feel it is time for all mixed-blood natives, and natives whose descendants are mixed bloods, to join together to try to protect the heritage of future generations.. Women banding together, regardless of country or specific tribal affiliations, can make that happen.
