Hi Andy
Its a while since I posted here – and I was pleased to see Steve's mildly
provocative post of 12th December was received in the constructive manner that
he surely intended it.
you write:
<<There doesn't seem to be a message counter as there is on the Everycountry
site, but it's my impression that we are often in single digits monthly with
many of those offering some kind of junk for sale>>
Yes – across all the coin groups I am signed into there seems to me to have been
a very marked drop in volume, and general standard of mails coming in, for many
months now.
I do not contribute to groups which have an open archive policy – in part
because I do not like to see google taking my comments out of context and
plastering them all over the internet. I mentioned this before (under a
previous moderator I suspect), but if there is now a will here to follow the
lead of ICG etc, and close to archive of MCG (making it members only), I would
be pleased to take part again.
best wishes to all
Robert Tye

To publish in an European numismatic journal is a very good idea.
I can arrange this in the next issue of the Bulletin du Cercle d'Etudes
Numismatiques (Brussels).
They are collecting the papers right now for the December issue. I think that
there is no problem to publish in English.
If you are ok, just send me a mail to my own email, I will call at night (in few
hours here) to see what can be done.
Best
Georges

Dear Mr. DeShazo,
If not too trouble for you, I'd like to receive a copy via word or PDF.
Thanks,
David.

Dear Andy,
I'm very glad to hear from you. I've been wondering how to open a
working relationship with you to help build my collection. I'm not able to
attend shows because of a fairly rigid obligation to my employer. I will send an
ecopy to your business email address. IF
you are unable to open the Word doc. just let me know and I can arrange a jpeg.
It is rather brief and to the point and is complete on one page. I'm pleased
that you remembered that I used to go by
Steve, the short form of my middle name Stephen.
Best regards,
Steve

Dear Steve,
I am another who doesn't receive the Celator, but this isn't exceptional for
medievalists. I did view the article briefly in a friend's copy, however, and
would request an ecopy from you so that I can actually study it and send in a
few comments.
I am also glad to see that the Medievalcoins message traffic has picked up a
bit. There doesn't seem to be a message counter as there is on the Everycountry
site, but it's my impression that we are often in single digits monthly, with
many of those offering some kind of junk for sale.
Best wishes,
Andy

Hi David,
Yes, Georges wrote that it is "a very important paper". It has not yet been
adopted by coin dealers, but many of them may not have seen it or prefer to stay
with the old attribution until they see further evidence. I have submitted a
follow-up article that will be in either the January or February Celator. This
second article includes information that I didn't have prior to the submission
of the original article.
Regards,
Alan

However, it is not my specialty and I am only, as the French say, "un amateur".
Did you get any comments from a scholar such as Depeyrot? These would be more
meaningful. He is a member of the Medieval Coin Group.

Hi Alan,
My Celator arrives a bit later than for those who live in the USA.
I read your article. Short and to the point, and a plausible deduction. However,
it is not my specialty and I am only, as the French say, "un amateur". Did you
get any comments from a scholar such as Depeyrot? These would be more
meaningful. He is a member of the Medieval Coin Group.

The November 2009 issue of the Celator has an article that I wrote on the
deniers of Rouen formerly attributed to Archbishop Hughes. This article offers
evidence of a more likely attribution. A follow up article is planned for a

My Ebay seller profile is at:

For tonight, ending in less than four hours, I've relisted my bargain threepence
of Elizabeth I. By all rights, this medium-grade specimen should have sold first
time out, but for some reason it didn't. Despite extensive wear, this one is
well-preserved enough to be deeply evocative of its time and place. As before,
this coin is getting some attention, but no bids yet, so I do hope you'll take a
look at this one. I'd really HATE to see the hammer come down on this one a
second time without a sale.
This Saturday and Sunday (November 7th and 8th, 2009) the Edmonton
Numismatic Society will be hold their fall coin show at the Mayfield
Inn, 16615 - 109th Avenue Edmonton, Alberta The show will be open to
the public Saturday from 10 to 5 and Sunday from 10 to 4.
Calgary Coin will be in attendance with our entire inventory of
ancient, medieval and modern coins.
Please feel free to drop by for a visit if you are in the Edmonton area.
