Description

Students of mass communication are witness to the intrigues of media empires that has endangered media space and public domain. The U N Declaration on Cultural Diversity that came in to force in March 2007 (isolating US and Israel) is a step in the right direction but US control of Internet remains intact. Indian Institute of Mass Communication Old Students Association (IIMCOSA) comprises of journalists from 96 countries and media professionals in India who have passed out of IIMC. IIMC celebrated its 42nd anniversary on August 17, 2007. IIMCOSA's functional name is mediavigil. It operates as a forum for media persons to exchange notes.

IIMC is a focal point to train journalists from countries of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in the aftermath of call for the establishment of a New International Information and Communication Order and the UNESCO’s MacBride Report of 1980. Since 1990s, journalists from countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia have also studied at IIMC.

IIMCOSA takes note of diminishing geo-political boundaries and the way internet is "fuelling a resurgence of individualism".

Indian media has some 38,000 publications & 250 channels besides radio.
"Who Owns What?" influences the information flow in media. We acknowledge that politics shapes information flow, but is also shaped by it & "The more the media matters, the more we must track what it does." For details contact: krishnagreen@gmail.com
