Description

MATH 115 (Statistics) is an introduction to statistics that covers descriptive statistics, elementary probability, and inferential statistics.

Prerequisite (recognized for two years): CR in MATH 82 OR C or better in MATH 83 or equivalent. Equivalent UH Community College courses include MATH 25 and 26. Other equivalencies include the following test scores:
at least 50 in the Algebra placement domain of COMPASS or at least 530 in the quantitative portion of the SAT

The lectures were taped in advance and will be broadcast on Oceanic Cable digital channel 355. Students are expected to subscribe to cable and record each lecture. There are also internet components. Course materials for the current and prior semesters are available in the files section of this Yahoo group.

This course is NOT self-paced. Barring emergencies, students must tacke each of the three required exams during its scheduled testing window.

This course CANNOT be completed entirely from home. The three required exams must be proctored. The Leeward CC testing center is available for walk-in exams but all other sites must be proposed and approved in advance.

TEXTBOOK: Statistics Concepts and Controversies, sixth edition, by David S. Moore and William I. Notz.

CALCULATOR: A scientific calculator capable of two-variable statistical functions is REQUIRED. The Texas Instrument models TI-30xIIB,TI-30xIIS, TI-82, TI-83, and TI-84 are supported (meaning help is availble from your instructor). Other makes and models might have the required functions but support will not be provided for them.

Joining this course group will allow you to view the course materials (in the messages and files sections) for the current and prior academic terms. Materials to be used in upcoming semesters might not yet be available.
