USCA’s Canoe News and Dan Grubbs’ Canoe & Kayak Racing magazine have teamed up to make access to each other materials easier for followers of both.
Canoe News web site http://www.uscanoenews.com now carries a link to the current issue of Canoe & Kayak Racinghttp://issuu.com/ckrmagazine/docs/nov_dec_09 right on its home page, and a Canoe & Kayak Racing magazine archives page where you can see a list of contents and link directly to every past issue!
And future issues of Canoe & Kayak Racing will contain a direct link to Canoe News’ Worldwide Paddling Event Calendar — a detailed online listing of hundreds of races and other paddling events coming up in the next 12-15 months.
These are just two of the developments that emerged from a meeting Thanksgiving week between Canoe & Kayak Racing editor Dan Grubbs and Canoe News editor Gareth Stevens.
Stevens said of the meeting, “It was was a breath – no, a gale – of fresh air. Not so much a negotiation as a genuine and generous exploration of how each of us can help the other promote the sport we love, and serve our fellow paddlers.”
"Gareth is right," said Grubbs. "We really want to communicate that racers have more in common than differences, regardless of their organizational affiliation."
The two have also agreed to team up to promote river clean ups and good stewardship of the country’s waterways.

Here's our fifth issue of Canoe & Kayak Racing. We have a great lead story and cover feature from Pam Boteler, president of USA WomenCAN, who leads the effort to have women's canoe become an Olympic medal event. We also hear from five-time U.S. marathon team member, Abel Hastings on interval training and his thoughts on the 2009 World Marathon Championships in Portugal. Hey, did you know outrigger racing is big on the East Coast? Associate editor Stephen Mahelona gives us a glimps of outrigger racing in non-traditional locales. While you're at our host site, check out our past issues.
Being a frequent user of the old-school boat delivery system, I appreciate it when someone offers rack space for shuttles, so: I will be travelling between Minneapolis and Huntsville/Decatur AL over the Thanksgiving week, and can carry a couple of boats if transport is needed.
Principally running the I-90/I-65 corridor, but can do a meetup within reasonble distance of route.
The best guide for predicting the 2010 entry fees is probably looking at last years. The entry forms from 2009 are available at this link. Fees range (for early entrants) by class from $65-$100 (per team) for c2s and $32-$60 for c-1s.

See Yukon River Quest posting on the Worldwide Paddling Event Calendar http://www.uscanoenews.com/Event.cfm?EventID=303
which has just been updated by the race organizers to give the new race rules,
and a few other previously tentative details that are now firm (like next year’s entry fees).
I posted a notice a few months back and got half-hearted replies.
I still have my great looking and in great condition Surf Ski for sale. I am
leaving the country within four weeks and need to sell my boat ASAP!
It is fibreglass - 18' long with a kick-up rudder ... and very eye-catching
paintwork (Red/Black/White) which are as bright as the day I bought it - as it's
always been stored indoors.
The Hammerhead denotes that it has a flared nose to prevent dipping into the
waves.
There should be photos of this craft on my profile page.
Feel free to call me for any further for further details.

Is the weight in kilograms that
you list next to the K-1’s, the maximum weight of the paddler that the
boat can properly handle?
80 kg = 176 pounds
75 kg = 165 pounds

Hi
All,
I am
new to the group and I am not up on all the group educate so I hope you
don't mind me sending out this sales add....
ELIO
has sent me a few Marathon kayaks as part of a shipment for display at the 2009
Sprint World Champs that were held in Nova Scotia this past August. I am
involved in Sprint Racing but I have few connections in the Marathon community
and thought you might know where or to whom might be interested in these boats.
Otherwise they will just sit in Storage. Any advice you could give
would be appreciated.

Check out the new 50-mile, 2-stage, event being put on by Outdoor Chattanooga. While this first event in not a race, the organizer seems to be willing to consider having a racing component in this event in future years. I'm sure this will be influenced by how this year's event goes. Anyway, it sure would be nice to have a multi-stage race in this part of the country! Outdoor Chattanooga currently puts on a short, 6-mile race each September.
Henceforward I can reached at johnalsop@... cheers ja

Dear fellow Paddlers,
It is time to think about what you are going to do when the paddling season is
over. Most of bikers uses their stationary bikes to keep fit for the upcoming
season. You can do the same by using your stationary canoe or kayak so think
about PaddleOne. Our ergs are the most compact, light and affordable on the
market. So don't hesitate to contact me or your nearest dealer.

Thank you and happy paddling,

It is the 2009 cash for clunkers...um I mean canoes program. :-)
I have a couple of friends that asked me to help them find canoes for them. I wanted to send out feelers to see if anyone had some old canoes that they were not using and would rather have some cash in their pocket. That being said, here is what my friends wanted me to help them look for.
1. a cruiser (4x32) 2. a USCA style C1 at a fair price 3. a USCA C1 for a bigger (weight wise) guy 3. a proboat (3x27)
Please drop me a line if you have any of the above that you are interested in selling for a fair price. My email is walldozer(at)aol.com. Thanks!!!
