Description

Welcome to the Malibu Outrigger Group. Please take a look at some old and new photos, read or share a story, or let others know about any Malibu's out there sailing or under construction. This group is a new group, so post away!

For people looking for the plans; they can be acquired by sending a $50.00 check (USD), payable to “Malibu Yacht Club” to:

John Abel
20494 Royalstone Drive
Malibu, CA 90265

The $50 dollar still goes toward the rent expenses of the yacht club, which inhabits a tiny house on the beach. The history is that Warren Seaman, designer of the Malibu Outrigger, donated the plans in 1955 to the newly formed yacht club to pay the rent for a slice of beach to store the boats. If anyone has seen any pictures of Malibu from the 50's to 60's, you'll know how popular these boats were. They were even featured in the June '58 issue of Popular Mechanics and make a cameo appearance in the cult surfing film "Endless Summer"!!!

Dagger Board
I guess I figured that both would do. Do not plan to be going through a surf, but never know. I also looked close at spar set, and might have to stay with

Re: Malibu Build
Sure, give it a try. But consider building it with a daggerboard case....just in case. Plus on most boats the daggerboard case is an important stiffener. On my

Re: Malibu Build
The boat was designed to go through the surf.   The dagger board and kick up rudder is a tremendous convenience for doing so. ________________________________
