COMPROMISE has been reduced again! $6,995 has all the standard stuff
with a 35hp Honda 4 stroke. Trailer completely rebuilt and hot dip
galvanized. Brand new trailer. Pop top lift can be seen in the
compromise photo folder. This is a great boat for the price but I need
the storage room. Always kept in a garage. 276-393-6678(cell) or 276-

Seems like we're getting more spam lately but I just screen it out.
Like to hear what anyone is doing as far as sailing.

Thinking about installing a solar roof vent to keep the boat interior
cooler and a hatch in the front deck for light, ventilation and
emergency exit in case someone locks me in or access to the front deck
from inside when sailing.

Has anyone had experience with either installation? Still trying to
find the leak into my ballast tank. Hopefully I'll get into the water
soon, pump up the tank with air pressure and have a scuba buddy look
underneath the boat. Probably around the centerboard bolt/pivot.

Sailing partners and new web site for sailors + bimini

Anyone have any suggestions to the common problem of sailing partner shortage?
My
wife works about 70 hours a week and is usually only available on weekends when
our
nearby lakes are too crowded with idiot powerboaters to enjoy sailing.
Seems like whenever you arrange in advance for a sailing partner, the wind
disappears and
whenever the wind is great and you call at the last minute or so, they say, "Why
didn't you
call in advance so I could make plans?"

I even asked a local scoutmaster with a small sailboat if he and/or members of
his troop
wanted to go out on my larger boat and he said he was "too busy to sail anymore.
What a
shame. Life is short and there are only so many good days for sailing.

Thanks for the reply but I couldn't find the photos you mentioned in our group
photo
section. Am I in the wrong place? Just noticed you said Photobucket, so I'll
try their web
site.

What size is your solar vent? I think in Arizona I'll need a larger model. I
was also
interested in putting one in the roof of my van. Even with windows partially
opened
(leaving an easier theft target) the inside gets up to 140 degrees on many
summer days.

We can sail all winter and the scenery here is fantastic, but unless you start
sailing at
5am, it gets too hot here most summer days to sail comfortably and weekends on
our
limited lakes are ridiculously crowded. I don't miss much about Michigan after
living there
most of my life but I do miss the Great Lakes. thanks, Mike Fortuna

seed if you can borrow a tach and measure the max. rpm
at full throttle. Since you probably want top speed
instead of top acceleration, I'd guess you want a max
rpm in the 4500-5500 range but check with a Honda
dealer or see if the manual mentions recommended top
rpm. When I was an Evinrude dealer we actually had a
vibration based tach that told you what the rpm was
but I haven't been able to find one lately. I
experimented myself with several pitches since the
standard prop with most engines is too high for the
Mac 19-in my case a 17 pitch, which I replaced with
11-13 pitch props.

The other criteria is top speed. Get a GPS that
measures speed. With minimal load (empty boat,
minimal gas, totally empty ballast tank (hopefully
yours doesn't leak water into it to slow you down) and
a light driver, you should be able to go 20 mph .
The ads for the 19 claimed as much as 24 mph with a 40
hp 2 cycle engine, but your Honda is probably heavier
and I doubt you'll find ideal water conditions and
they probably had an 8 year old driver and totally
empty boat. On the other hand, most 19' displacement
hull sailboats are lucky to even go 5 mph in a storm
or no matter how big an engine they use. I'd be
interested to hear how much faster a 50 hp Honda is
than the 40 hp normally used on a 19.

There are rumors that someone, maybe in Colorado had a
2 cycle 90 hp outboard on their 19 and reached speeds
over 40 mph. Maybe nice to avoid a storm, pull a
large water skiier or get to a hot date on time but
otherwise, what's the rush? good sailing, Mike

The best top speed that I ever reached was 24.2 mph, now that was about
5 years ago when my 40 hp Tohatsu was a little younger, I think it's a
bit tired now as I have never done any work on it except plugs, change
gear oil, and clean filters, and it's a '93. Even last weekend after
fishing we hit 22.1 mph on GPS with me(215 LBS), the wife (130
something) and about 100 LBS. of gear. So a Honda 50 should come close
to that.

Hi

my Mac 19 has until recently had a Yamaha 25hp which - when I propped
it correctly (8inch pitch seems best) got me a little over 13 mph;
however, my transom is way too low and the cav plate was 2 - 3 inches
below the waterline, and I think 15 - 17mph would be achievable if
set up correctly. I am now going over to a Mercury 40 though.

In passing, the Permatrim hydrofoil - which comes from NZ - has mad
it far easier to get up on the plane and stay there at modest revs

best regards

Andrew

I looked up some of the comments on the Permatrim.
Looks like you could make your own lots cheaper. I
added some horizontal fins to my 40 hp after hearing
it helped another 19 owner but didn;t really see much
difference.

Yes I just bought 14" wheels and tires for my Mac 19. They work great!
No more sway on the trailer when towing. The tire on the wheel can be
upgraded also. I went from a 2 ply to a 6 ply. I will say that the
fender getsw filled up but we have not seen any tire rub as yet. I
would highly recommend upgrading.

Will they clear the fenders under load or do you have
to go with low profile? Are they heavy duty trailer
types? I'm using one of the mini auto spares as a
spare on mine. Rated for 1300 lbs but only good for
50 mph 400 miles but better than none.

Good morning all

I was out yesterday more heavily loaded than usual and, after filling
the ballast, my bilge pumps kept cutting in.

Closer inspection revealed two neat 3/8 inch vent holes just above
the "normal" waterline, one either side of the transom, but inside of
the twin rudders. I had a vague recollection of seing these in the
past but it had never dawned on me that they might be a potential
hazard!

Does anyone have some idea of what these are for and whether filling
them would cause problems?

regards

Andrew
