Description

Lyn Paul first came to public prominence with a group named the New Seekers in 1970. With her co-parts she hit the No.1 spot in nearly every worldwide chart with "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing". She sang the lead vocal on the UK's Eurovision entry for 1972 with "Beg Steal or Borrow" and on the group's second No. 1 "You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me". The group were a phenomenon and appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show several times, and sang for President Nixon at the White House. In their home country they headlined at the London Palladium and at the Royal Albert Hall. In 1974 Lyn left the group to persue a solo career. Initially she enjoyed moderate success with singles including John Barry's film theme to "The Dove" with "Sail The Summer Winds", and "It Oughta Sell A Million". Lyn's only solo album to date was released in 1975, entitled "Give Me Love", with New Seekers and Cilla Black producer Dave MacKay. It has not been re-issued as yet onto CD. Her live performances have seen her working with Andy Williams, Jack Jones, Dionne Warwick and Liza Minnelli, and has won various accolades including the Carl-Allen Award several times. Throughout the 80's she appeared in cabaret and concert tours, and in panto and summer seasons. However, she encountered several spells of bad luck and in 1995 she declared herself bankrupt. She subsequently headlined at the Cockney Cabaret, the Talk of London, and the Cafe Royal and in 1997 won critical acclaim for her first major acting role as Mrs. Johnstone in the West End musical "Blood Brothers". She is married and has a young son, Ryan. Feel free to join the list and post thoughts, news and views, and scan photographs.
