As at December 30, 2011 the Cryonics Institute
has 971 Members and 107 Patients. Of the 971 Members,
473 have funding and contracts in place for
human cryopreservation. Of the 473, 113 have
arrangements for Suspended Animation Standby
and Transport. In 2011 CI had an increase of
76 Members, 38 Members with funding and contracts,
and 19 Members having funding and contracts
with Suspended Animation, Inc.
CI cryopreserved five new pets in
2007 and 2008, eight new pets
in 2009, seven new pets in 2010,
and thirteen new pets in 2011.
Prior to 1990 annual growth of CI Membership
was in the single digits, annually. It
would be very difficult to give a precise
number for the number of CI Members at the
beginning of 1990 because some of those
Members terminated Membership or died
without being preserved (some deanimated
and were preserved) and historical records
for numbers of Members at all points of time
in the past were not being saved. There were
probably just over 50 CI Members at the
beginning of 1990.
There were only 2 patients prior to 1990,
Robert Ettinger's mother in 1977 and Robert Ettinger's
first wife in 1987. In the year 2004 CI received
8 patients plus took in another 10 American Cryonics
Society patients who had been at the CryoSpan
Facility in California. The patient figures below can
be matched against the webpage in which patient
details are enumerated:

The Cryonics Institute and Alcor are by far
the largest cryonics organizations in the
world. Below are some statistics on historical
growth of the organizations in terms of
Members and Patients. Both Alcor and CI had
the highest historical Membership growth in
2005. CI has had linear growth in the last
four years, whereas Alcor had low Member
growth, but high Patient growth in 2010.
Historical Membership statistics for Alcor
and CI can be found at:

Alcor's definition of Members corresponds
to CI's definition of CI Members having funding
and contracts in place. I can only give CI
growth statistics for these kinds of Members
since 2007, and I can only estimate Alcor's
exact Membership numbers as of 30-Dec-11.
Using what I have, I get the following
comparison:
