Hi, my name is Rachel. I was recommended to the stitch n bitch
website, and I found your group. I also Live in Logan square. I am very
much interested in learning how to knit, sadly enough I have no
experience knitting but I know how to sew. I understand that you are
having a gathering this coming Thursday the 14th. I was wondering if it
was alright that I attend also. If its alright that I attend, please tell me
what I need to bring. I know (duh) knitting needles and yarn, but anything
else.
If you want to know anything else about me my myspace page (I hope
this isn”Ēt corny) is http://www.myspace.com/puffpuff311
I hope to hear from you. Thanks

Thanks Marcy! Thanks everybody! That's really sweet of you all. I'm
always excited to get mail, never mind mail with yarn in it. My boyfriend,
Sam, is also excited that we'll be getting mail, although he is oddly
indifferent on the subject of yarn.

Marcy,

Harold and I should be there, although on the late
side as he has soccer practice until 7. I'd LOVE to
wind some balls of yarn, but that would take some
advance planning on my part...we'll see what happens!

Marita,

You mentioned that you were leaving the novel that you
borrowed with knit group for return to me. Does
anyone know who has it--and you know who you are! I
do hope to be there this week and would like to
relieve you of the burden. If it is the book I
remember, the kids and I are reading that series aloud
and will be needing it within the next, oh, three
months.

Thanks,

Ann

A friend of mine in the city is organizing a day-long mediation/art day for
peace. She's succeeded in getting a permit to use Grant Park...details below.
Please forward this to anyone you know who may be interested in participating in
any way, shape or form.

Oh my . . . do we all have something to be excited about!

I finally heard back from the Chicago Park District office today about their
donating Grant Park for the peace vigil on September 21st, and they have agreed
to let us use it! We will have access to the Petrillo Bandshell at the SW
corner of Columbus and Jackson. We have to give the city a security deposit of
$2,000.00, but we will get it back as long as no damage is done to the park. I
think we can manage to keep the damage down! :-) If any of you have ideas about
how to get the $2,000.00 deposit, though, I would appreciate your help. Email
hopeforall.tamara@...

So, this means . . . onward and forward for us!! woo hoo!

Now that the location is settled, I'll be finishing up the formal flyer in the
next couple of days (fingers crossed). In the meantime, please spread the word
for possible participants. The following is a list of what we are still looking
for:

* Peace and social activists who would like to share briefly (5 minutes?) their
work and how it might contribute to a peaceful future *Dancers/performers who
would like to share their vision/hope for/of peace
* Artists who would like to share their creative work and, perhaps, help
decorate?

* People who would like to lead a prayer and/or meditation on/for peace (5-10
minutes?)

* DJ's and VJ's who want to share music and video that they feel can help create
a peaceful environment

* Body workers/energy healers who would like to share their ideas about how we
can maintain healthy/peaceful bodies

* Raw foodists/vegetarians/vegans who want to share how what we eat can
contribute to a more peaceful world.

Of course, we are open to other ideas as well and welcome comments and
questions. I've attached the "Call for Participants" flyer. Please pass it on
where you feel appropriate.

Thank you for all of your support! And, please, don't hesitate to contact us if
you have any suggestions.

Thanks again, and Peace!

Hi Logan Square knitters,

Here is the info about the GRAKNITTI project in case someone missed it.

GRAKNITTI is a site-specific art project exploring folkloristic and
ethnographical patterns in the urban landscape. Through visual signs GRAKNITTI
will introduce new meanings of public and private space that open up for
interactions among people.

The first location for the art project GRAKNITTI will be the Paseo Garden at
2616 N. Kedzie Boulevard near the Logan Square 'EL' stop on the blue line. The
project will have an opening reception Sunday October 1, 2006 from 1-6 pm and
will run until the end of October (or until the trees lose their foliage).

Seven trees will be decorated with knitted patterns or abstract signs; some of
these signs will have a historical connection to the different ethnic groups
that live/have lived in the Logan Square neighborhood (Dutch, German, Mexican,
Scandinavian, Polish, Puerto Rican), and other knitted signs will be of more
contemporary character. Mixing historical and contemporary signs that point to a
common future, GRAKNITTI wants to focus on perception and behavior in public and
private spaces and conceptualize hidden boundaries between people.

GRAKNITTI has been registered for Chicago Artists' Month 2006.

I hope you will be able to participate. The deadline for finishing your
GRAKNITTI piece will be Thursday Sept. 28. I will start to stitch the pieces
together on Friday 29. The opening will be Sunday Oct.1 from 1-6 pm.

   See you on Thursday :-)

   Inger Lena

Hello, Knitters. Sorry about the late notice. I totally dropped the
ball and forgot that Joyce had asked me to send this week's message.

Since the weather has turned chilly and the sun now sets at 7, I propose
that we meet at Mojoe's Cafe on Belmont at Francisco (2849 W.
Belmont). I know NoFriction is an old fave, but they close at 8pm.
Plus, Mojoe's has a large, round, well-lit table downstairs, perfect for
our group.

Let me know if you can make it. Again, sorry about the late message.
Peace,
Anna

Hello Friends--

Would anyone like to have the most recent issue of
Creative Knitting? It has mostly intermediate and
beginner level patterns in worsted to chunky weight
yarns.

I am done with my copy, and would be happy to give it
away.

Thanks,

Hello Friends--

I thought it imight be nice to firm up our plans for October, and
start thinking about the rest of winter.

If I remember correctly, the following is what we discussed so far:

Sunday, Oct. 1--Graknitti Opening Reception at Paseo Prairie Garden,
just outside the Logan Square Blue Line El stop, 1 to 6 PM
Thursday, Oct. 12--no plan yet
Sunday, Oct. 15--Coley's apartment at the time of her choice
Thursday, Oct. 26--no plan yet

If anyone would like to host in November and December, dates would be:

Sunday, Nov. 5
Thursday, Nov. 9
Sunday, Nov. 19
Thursday, Nov. 23--Note that this is Thanksgiving Day. Maybe we
should pick another date or take a break this week?
Sunday, Dec. 3
Thursday, Dec. 14
Sunday, Dec. 17
Thursday, Dec. 28

Best,

Joyce

the late notice. I totally dropped the

Peace,
Anna

Yes, I'm definitely in for hosting on the 15th. I'm not sure what
time works for everyone, but as long as it's not early it'd be fine.
I'm hoping to talk my grandma into coming down for the day as well.

I could probably take a few more in November or December as well.
It's far enough in advance that as long as I mark it on the Google
Calendar now, it's good.

Coley,
What we have found best is for you to pick a time that works for you
and just let us know what it is. When we start trying to find times
that work for everyone, we just can't.

Marcy.

Hello all,

I have firmed up dates with my house partners, and
would like to offer the long weekend of November 10,
11 and 12 for a knitting retreat at our vacation house
in Empire, Michigan. (See www.lelandreport.com for
some local information.) The accomodations are free,
and I'd suggest that for food we keep track of
receipts for what is cooked in the house. There are
at least two knit shops nearby that I know will still
be open in the fall, and more a half hour away in
Traverse City. We are a 5 minute walk from Lake
Michigan and surrounded by Sleeping Bear Dunes
National Lakeshore.

Ideally I will leave our car home for my husband and
the kids, unless we prefer to all go together in a van
and then maybe I can swing a loaner from my parents.

Let me know soonest who is interested in making a plan
and we can form a separate email group to set the
details.

Ann
