here will be a special ICQ Chat for all Lions at ICQ #13915139 on Sunday October
4th 1998 at 8 PM Eastern time. I will be there and invite other Lions.
ello, my mother Bernice Olson is a member of the
Harbor-Mesa Lions in Costa Mesa, Calif. Bee is a bit computer
challanged, so I, her daughter, work the computer stuff for
her. I am not a Lion, but I do a lot of volinteering
on the 4L4 sight and hearing van as it goes from
school to school to check the hearing of the students.
LFREDA, HAS YOUR PRESIDENT EVER BEEN SECRETARY?
TAKE HIM ASIDE AND REMIND HIM THAT A PRESIDENT IS ONLY
AS GOOD AS HIS/HER SECRETARY AND THAT FELT IT WAS IN
THE CLUBS BEST INTEREST THAT YOU DID WHAT YOU DID.
YOU MAY WHAT TO TALK ABOUT THIS WITH THE 1ST VICE,
MAYBE HE/SHE COULD ALSO TALK TO THE PRESIDENT.
REMINDER, CONFLICT INSIDE THE CLUB COULD BRING THE CLUB
DOWN..BILL.LEDYARDREC@...

ellow Lions, I'm having serious problems dealing
with my club's president. He has told me, in front of
other members, I might add, that I should stay in my
place. I'm club secretary, and he believes I've
encroached on his job. The only reason this may be so is
because he has not done his job, and I've tried to help
out as best I could. My apology is not good enough,
it seems, because he keeps treating me like a
servant. (I know, "We Serve" but this is ridiculous!) How
have you handled personal conflicts such as this one?
It is really tearing me up, and I need some advice.
Thanks.
In Lionism,
elfreda_c
etting up a web page for your club is not only a
great means of promotion for your club, it can also be
a great means of communication.

If you have
members at large, or who can't always attend meetings,
putting details of upcoming projects on your web page
will ensure that they are able to access club
information (provided of course that they have internet
access). It also allows neighbouring clubs to keep each
other aware of what they are doing. It gives you a
chance to share your clubs successes and problems with
others, something that often only happens at
Conventions.

In terms of promotion, Lions Clubs on the Internet
may encourage younger people to join. Our Lions
population is an aging one, and unless younger members are
encouraged and actively sought, the organisation will die
along with its members.

In terms of fundraising,
advertising of fundraising events is one means. Another may
be to sell advertising space on your site to
corporations. This isn't possible with Geocities or the other
free web page services, although Geocities does allow
ads for Amazon.Com and CDNOW and you get a certain
percentage for any purchases made as a result of someone
going there from your site.

Even if your club
doesn't feel that it would be of great benefit to
establish a web page, it certainly couldn't hurt, could
it?

Nicole O'Brien
President
Deer Park and District

OD meeeting is after the club meeting, we lose
members. They've already been there 2-3 hours and want to
go home.

If the BOD meeting is before the
club meeting, we didn't get many because people
weren't home from work or needed time to relax before
going to meeting. Also, they would get drinks from the
bar and it was very social and hard to get down to
business.

Maybe, and only maybe, would i suggest it if there is
something of a serious, emergency nature that you want
their backing or input on before something goes before
the membership.

I'ld suggest have separate
meetings, but keep them short. Don't allow long ongoing
discussions that go nowhere! One key to watch for is when an
idea or opinion starts getting repeated by either the
same member or others start repeating it. Ask for new
fresh, different viewpoints.
ere are some suggestions that can benefit your
club membership.

1. Use the internet as a
communication tool between members. Post newsletters for the
membership to preview, that they can go back to and browse
in their leisure. Post a calendar of meetings and
committee activity dates, so a member has a place to look.
The printed newsletter was lost long ago.

2.
Attract new members to your club. Being on the internet
is a sign that your club is a growing force in the
community and not a stagnant old club in town. Younger
members (30-50) will be attracted by the use of the newer
technology.

3. Inform your own community of your activities. Ask
your local area webpages to provide a permanent link
your club's page, so people in town can see the club's
accomplishments.

4. Hold an online meeting just once on a Sunday
evening or other time at any one of a dozen places on the
internet. Plan it about a month in advance and invite Lions
from anywhere to join in as a visitor. The online
meeting will give your members some great ideas. (Try to
limit the discussion about a specific topic.)

5.
An actual fundraising project can be held online. A
club in Georgia recently held an online six week
fundraiser with links at several other internet locations.
They had responses from 30 states, and earned a few
thousand dollars.

6. Online advertising of your
events may not provide very many visitors now in 1998,
but since the internet is nearly free, now is the
time to develop a presence on the internet in
preparation for a future where the internet is available in
every home.

How does the District benefit?
In
many more ways:
1. Increased communication between
leaders and clubs.
2. Preparation for the eventual
online Club M & A reporting.
3. Coordination of
District, Multiple District functions.

Lion Dan

hen I brought it up about starting a Web page -
the guys just said just do it (as long as it doesn't
cost anything). For tips visit our Connecticut Lions
Page - this Yahoo site is free as well and you can
open a "club" specific for your club and link from
there to freeebee pages at geocities, angelfire, and
others

hat Lions chorale sounds fun. So far , our club
has not sung a lot, but we are in the process of
setting up a Barbershop group with four of us that are
experienced choristers - although none of us have done b/s
before! We are hoping we can put together a repertoire
that we can take around other Clubs and some of the
local old-folks' homes.
Lion Tom
am also interested in this topic. I hear that
at the USA/Canada Leadership Forum, they have a
Lions chorale. This year it is in Lexington, KY. I wish
I could go. Does your club sing a lot? Is there any
special songs that can get members excited about Lionism?
Glad to see other Lions with similar interests in this
club.Lion ElFreda
hese Yahoo! clubs are a great idea. I belong to
one that caters for my choral music interests and
have had several opportunities for sharing info - both
ways. I'm sure this one will be just as helpful. Thanks
for starting it up.

Lion Tom

Ginno is an 8 yr old boy who needs an organ transplant.
