Hi have any ububtu users noticed a random muting of audio over the last
few weeks it happens 3 or 4 times a night.
Sometime the level just reduces but most times it goes straight to mute.
This is not fldigi related as I use the USB SignaLink for fldigi. This
is related to the main system audio.

Never seen this on my machine(s). Could you possibly have used some
other software that interacts with the audio system? music players,
video players, even flash in your web browser may be able to change
volume.
Can you reproduce the problem consistently?

Reproduce would be the wrong word the number of times a night are fairly
consistent though.
But a lot of the time all I had done is logged in and started to do
email. Log in is actually switch the PC on boot and login.
It just did it then, big speaker crossed out pic in middle of screen for
a second or so and now the speaker Icon top right near the date is also
crossed out.
As you can see not been on long. Evolution email is the only app I have
started myself.

roger@bilbo:~$ uptime
  16:25:35 up 29 min, 2 users, load average: 0.18, 0.39, 0.39

It shows both users as me but I assume that's because I opened a
terminal to do uptime.
It will do it when I'm streaming audio or watching TV via a PCI tv card
or not uses the audio system at all with the same consistancy.
It's just an annoyance at the moment.

For those interested, Puppy Linux 4.1 has been released. See
http://www.puppylinux.com/ for details. Be sure to read the release
notes before downloading. Fldigi-flarq work nicely but you will need
to find the dependencies or wait for a fldigi.pet to be made.

Hello to all...

I have been attempting to get fldigi and CAT to work on my TS-2000 for
several days now. I have been able to get it to transmit, but CAT is
inop.

Earlier today, I selected TS-570S in hamlib instead of the TS-2000
selection and CAT did start to work somewhat. If I use the "RigCtrl" I
can change frequency in the RigCtrl program but it will not change
frequencies on the rig. If I change frequency on the rig, the RigCtrl
will change frequency to match the rig... Strange...

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong here?

Thanks in advance...

Please specify your OS as this group has both Windoze and Linux users.
It may not be related but better too much than too little info. I
have read the TS2000 manual and it's cat operation is a little
strange, and has been discussed on both NBEMShams and Digitalradio groups.

Al,

I think this post may be relevant:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NBEMSham/message/699

Apparently Simon has some experience with this model. You may want to
do a search within NBEMShams for all post related to TS-2000. Seems
like the TS-2000 can't walk & chew gum at the samw time. ;)

Hi All,

I have been trying to get the Hamfax program to run on Ubuntu 8.04 (HH).
The program installs OK, but when I try to receive I get the following
error message.

"could not set audio format S16_LE"

I have searched the internet, and the only reference to S16_LE has been
in the source code, the relevent bit of which is reproduced below.

00083             int format=AFMT_S16_LE;
00084             if(ioctl(dsp,SNDCTL_DSP_SETFMT,&format)==-1
00085                ||format!=AFMT_S16_LE) {
00086 throw Error(
00087                         tr("could not set audio format S16_LE"));

It would seem to me that S16_LE needs to be installed - but how - and
where from ?

Hamfax must be working for someone - is it associated with a particular
distro ?

OTOH If anyone would like to suggest an alternative program (in Linux)
for the reception of HF fax and WEFAX I would be most grateful.

Thanks in advance.

On my other computer, the interface to the FT-950 was working, but I had
a HDD failure and installed a new Hard Disk. Of coarse, I lost the
fldigi program, and had to rebuild it. I did save the rig.html file, and
after loading the program and running it once to build the directory, I
copied the old rig file into the hidden directory. Problem is this, I
upgraded from 2.07 to 3.03. and now the rig control isn't on the program
bar like it used to be, and searching I see that it is supposed to be in
the View tab. It is blanked out.

The program was working fine, and no change to the hardware other than a
new hard drive in the PC.

        Old HDD New HDD
OS Fedora 8 Fedora 8
MEM 1 GB 1 GB
fldigi 2.07 3.03
Both built from sources.

So, what gives? What am I doing wrong?

That's 16 KHz mono (little endian).

Is alsa utils installed? What about alsa-oss emulation?

I sent along my config.log off list, that might help.

I don't use Ubuntu, but I've never had trouble with HamFax on any
Mandriva release over the years.

I take it you have all of the necessary devels installed, and that
./configure didn't reveal anything missing?

You did remember to click the initialize box ?? This is the #1 error
that people make. Double check that your port assignments are also
correct. This is #2 on the list. There were no changes to fldigi that
would cause rigCAT not to work from version to version, except as above.

Hi Ed,

I do believe I do have the port assignment correct in the rig.html. And,
yup, I did touch the initialize box in rigcat setup.

I'll go dig some more.

OK. I checked everything. The USB-serial adapter was showing the connect
light, the DATA light was flashing, the software was decoding OK, but
still no rig. So, I replaced the USB-serial adapter with another one.
The software began working. I put the old USB adapter back on, and
everything now works. Really strange. Well, thanks for your help. I
guess if everything else checks out, replace the cable.

Turns out the problem was I needed to change out the cable, then
re-install it. Don't know why, but my PC keeps power on the USB-serial
adapter even when the PC is off. Removing the adapter allowed it to
totally power down, then reset. I guess it hung up in some strange mode
so it didn't work correctly. Re-plugging it in again and now it works
fine. Go figure. That is one for the memory books.

Thanks Rick,

I used the built in installer, to install the hamfax - perhaps that was
a mistake. I will go back and uninstall and do it the proper way as you
suggest and see how that goes.
Just got visitors, so it won't be until later.

I always built HamFax from source, never had a problem.

Hi Rick,

Many thanks for your help. I did install and reinstall from source. The
only problem I then had was getting the right C++ compiler - Hi, and it
is now working fine.

It seems that the problem with the original install, may have been the
missing libaudio files.

Anyway, great stuff - thanks again.

Hi,
Has anyone been able to access USB ports with pskscope version 3?  Version 2 would recognize /dev/ttyS0 and a symbolic link to /dev/ttyUSB0 would work. However, version 3 doesn't seem to recognize any ports (/dev/ttyS? or /dev/ttyUSB?).
Thanks,
Milt

No luck so far. I have it on Windows (also the original pskmeter) ok
but neither Ubuntu 8.04 or Puppy Linux 4.1 will connect. I would
suspect my setup but the windows version works fine on this laptop
with the same hardware. Definitely a comm problem of some sort. I
haven't had much time to play with it.

Hello all

Now I had played with Linux netbook AA1 some weeks. Some days ago I
installed WinXP to AA1
But now back in Linux. Oeh!

1. how to keep the nb-clock always right. What where to write?
2. what where to write so that fldigi and fl_logbook start always in
start up and in defined screenplace (lfdigi in right and fl_logbook in
left part of 1024x600 screen)?
3. does I need some soft against viruses, spyware, ...?
4. where to find more info for Linux-beginners (fedora, thunar
beginners) and maybe howto´s?

The JARTS RTTY contest is this weekend. I plan on operating as SOAB low
power. The exchange is RST + age. If you plan on participating pay
attention to the JA band segments on 40/80.

The rules are here ::

Has anyone tried to run the ARUser (ve7cc.exe) dx cluster programme written in
visual basic for windows with WINE under Linux?

Or for than matter any other windows dx cluster program with WINE? I've almost
got it going but not quite, and need some help.

I've posted to the ARUser group with no response.

RXCLUS by HB9BZA works well under Wine.
