KOMPAS.com — Dampak pemanasan global abad ini bisa jadi dua kali lebih parah
dari perkiraan enam tahun lalu, demikian laporan beberapa ahli pekan ini.
"Temperatur rata-rata permukaan naik 9,3 derajat fahrenheit (5,2 derajat
celsius) sampai 2100," kata beberapa ilmuwan di Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT), dibandingkan dengan studi pada 2003 yang memproyeksikan
temperatur rata-rata naik 4,3 derajat F (2,4 derajat C).

BEIJING - Rich nations should cut their greenhouse gas emissions by at least
40 percent by 2020 from 1990 levels as part of a new global climate change
pact, China said on Thursday, spelling out its stance ahead of negotiations.The
pact must ensure wealthy nations "take on quantified targets to
drastically reduce emissions," said the statement, issued by the National
Development and Reform Commission (www.ndrc..gov.cn), which steers Chinese
climate change policy.

UNITED NATIONS - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for a "green
new deal" on climate change on Thursday and urged for a final push in
negotiations ahead of a key summit to be held in Copenhagen in December."We
