Hi Everybody -

    It's been a minute since I've spoken with y'all.

But I did wanted to take a second to weigh on on Solomon Douglas coming back to Georgia Tech Friday night.

Firstly, I was there last time he played and he and the band were GREAT!
Secondly, Solomon is not one of the old guys, (like me), from back in the day.
He's one of the Swing Kids - Dancer - DJ - Musician - Arranger - Producer.
His band is a Solid Sender - solid Swing - Basie style.
If you dig the music of Count Basie do not miss this Dance!

Plus, Malon Fripp, one of the original Swing Kids from the Summer of '98", is DJ'ing the band breaks.
I've known Malon from the offset and he always did have a great grip on the fun music!

Chances are, I'll see ya there.

Dancing in Colorado gets better each year!
We have an amazing dance community here; cooporation, teamwork, friendship, and

harmony to create a wonderful community. Words cannot express my gratitude.

Over the past 10 years we our community has thrived. We have danced a lot, had a
great time, made lifetime friends, and have good memories growing in our dance
and advancing our lives. I was recently watching some videos from events in
Colorado from 11 years ago. My we have all grown so much! Some are now
national and international dance champions and instructors. We are so fortunate
to continually have all the Lindy Hop Greats join us in Denver each year. As a
result, dancers from all across the country come here to dance….this event is no
exception.
Dancers from NY, CA, CO, NC, AZ, TX, WA, NM, CT, NV are converging in Denver for
this event!

Subject: Beantown Camp Thoughts and Thanks:-) [6/24-7/1/2010, Boston, MA, USA]
why_not_t
Offline Offline
Send Email Send Email

As we are finishing off the after-camp follow up, we wanted to send out some
thanks and some thoughts about this year's Beantown. It was a truly wonderful
week and we are full of the good feelings and spirit of the experience. We are
so grateful to everyone who joined us this year and elated to hear the comments
of best Beantown ever and best camp ever!

There were many wonderful moments and aspects about Beantown to mention, so we
will just highlight a few.

Beantown Instructors!
One of our main goals at Beantown is to provide an outstanding learning
opportunity for our campers and to do that, we need great instructors. This year
seemed better than ever as the synergy was just right and the camaraderie among
the instructors extended to the camaraderie at camp. So many people stopped us
all week to say how much they were enjoying their classes and loving the
instructors.

Dance Parties!
Another of our main goals is to provide great music for social dancing. The
music was outstanding this year thanks to the Fried Bananas, the Boilermaker
Jazz Band, the Racky Thomas Band, Gordon Webster & Friends and a great crew of
DJs headed up by Marc-Andre. Also big hits were the special late night dances
including the Friday Night Blues Party with Andrew and Mihai, the Saturday Late
Night with the BSC crew and the Soul Party with Peter. The energy at all the
dances was so great this year and it was very rewarding seeing the many happy
faces out on the floor.

Frankie Manning Tribute!
It was emotion-packed, but for many of us, it was something we needed to do and
we hope that Frankie received some of the honor that he so much deserves. There
are many lessons we can learn from the life he lead, and the tribute gave a good
representation of the man he was, both through the clips that were shown and the
stories that were told. As someone mentioned, many of us have had the
opportunity to hear Frankie speak and tell his stories. This was a chance for us
to say how we felt about him. We very much appreciate the work Cynthia Millman
did in putting the program together and to everyone who participated, especially
Ramona, Skye, Sylvia and Ryan.

NELHC Competitions!
We may not have a lot of competitions at Beantown, but we do have good ones:-)
They really have evolved, with this year's advanced J&J showing quite an
impressive representation of some of the best dancers across the country. Thank
you so much to everyone at each level who participated and for bringing your
great positive energy. Plus as usual, the Beantown audience provided fabulous
support. Thanks to Joel Domoe for an awesome job as Chief Judge and competition
coordinator and Michael Gamble for providing most of the music. Having live
accompaniment for the first time with the Fried Bananas and the Boilermakers was
an extra treat. Thanks also to our dedicated panel of judges including Sylvia,
Ryan, Jenny, Melanie, David, Jennifer and Paulette.

Beantown's Got Talent!
What we learned - Beantown does have talent and it is in the amazing brain of
Peter Strom! BGT gave us the best belly laughs of the week thanks to our
outstanding MC, Dave Lasagna and panel of celebrity judges as played by Peter,
Jennifer and Sylvia. Thanks also to all participants who braved their comments
and provided us with some wonderful entertainment. The stand out performance had
to be Adam Lasnik on the piano. (Was it 25 songs in 5 minutes?) We had some
singing, some dancing, some rapping, some audience participation, and even some
jugglers with shtick:-)

Performances!
We have tremendous talent on our teaching staff at Beantown and it was really
highlighted during both the Saturday and Sunday performances. Thank you so much
to everyone who participated and to the track instructors for pulling off
another awesome group number!

Endicott College!
We are so grateful to have found a home for Beantown at this beautiful college
campus. The college staff are incredibly helpful to our putting it all together,
especially Patrick, our #1 liaison. We also have to mention Paul and the food
service crew. They go out of their way to help everyone with specific food or
dietary requirements and to provide us with wonderful, healthy meals and some
deliciously decadent desserts. Each year it just gets better.

Camp Helpers!
We have been blessed with the most wonderful crew who have helped us year after
year. We must especially give thanks to Martin, Suzanne, Rachelle, Joe,
Meredith, Denyce, Steve and Deb for running the water crew, Beantown Shop,
Beantown Cafe, transporting staff, setting up and breaking down camp. They are
the most reliable, personable and helpful bunch of people you could find! Many
others contributed as well including Ben, June, Betty, Margaret, Ed M, Benson,
Dave S plus our scholarship workers and others who pitched in when needed.
Thanks also to Dave for our lunch time entertainment and so much more, Michael
and Jaya for watching over the Green Track, Boston Swing Central for co-hosting
our Saturday dance, Jamie for getting almost as little sleep as we did, Tara for
running the open practices, Jennifer and Catherine for the morning and afternoon
stretch classes, Richard for the Tai Chi classes, Rich for camp photos, David
for the camp DVD, Ed for shoe chroming and Amie for adding 1940s hairstyling. We
also want to thank everyone who helped spread the word about Beantown and
brought along new campers. Beantown could not be what it is without the
contribution of so many and we truly appreciate every one of you!

Beantown Campers!
Beantown campers are just the nicest people you could meet! Thank you all so
much for your wonderful energy and enthusiasm. When it is all said and done, it
is the smiling faces that make doing Beantown worthwhile. We are thrilled with
such a wide diversity of people from across the country and beyond, yet all
blending together into one big happy family:-)

We have been thinking a lot about Frankie Manning these last few months. He
brought with him such a great positive energy and joy which he spread around the
world. He treated everyone the same and made everyone feel that they counted.
This same spirit is what we strive to create at Beantown each year. We want it
to be a place where everyone feels welcomed and that they belong. We have a
renewed commitment to trying to make that happen and hope that we can continue
to do our small part to carry on with Frankie's legacy.

Best wishes to everyone for a fantastic summer!

Happy dancing,
Aurelie & Tony

P.S. Dates for Beantown Camp 2010 are 6/24-7/1 with the same multiple options of

BIO: Sean Wilson
Instructor/Performer

Originally from Jamaica, Sean Wilson moved to the U.S. at age eleven, where he began studying trombone and pursuing his growing passion for jazz music. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and played trombone in the 82nd Airborne Division Band. He then returned to FIU in Miami to pursue a computer science degree and began intensive Wing Chun kung fu training, which he continues today. After beginning work as a software engineer, Sean was lured into salsa classes in 2003. His prior musical training and the awareness of energy flow he learned from martial arts enabled Sean to move quickly through the salsa curriculum. He began studying casino style salsa, but soon switched to LA style and began performing with Salsa Karibe Dance Team in  2004. It is, however, when he is dancing NY style salsa/mambo on2, that Sean feels his instincts as a jazz musician can be most fully expressed as a dancer. Impressed with his musicality, Juliet McMains invited Sean to teach for Salsa Addiction in 2006. His patience, sense of humor, and ability to relate to a wide range of people quickly helped him become a superior teacher. Sean is currently the director of Essential Element Dance Company.  He teaches classes in New York style salsa (mambo on2). Sean's salsa style, marked by rhythmical shines and the ability to easily adjust to partners of varying skill sets, makes him a highly sought after dance partner for salseras of all levels.

BIO: Lisa Perez
Instructor/Performer

Born in Brooklyn, New York and was raised in Boston, Massachusetts.  She studied and taught NY style salsa on2 with April Genovese, a former Razz M' Tazz performer in the Boston area. In 2001 Lisa and Dave Morgan danced together and quickly became one of the hottest dance couples in the Northeast, performing demos in Salsa and Hustle and winning Salsa contests in Boston and New York. They have appeared twice on Univision's "Pachanga Latina."  Lisa and Dave also created an instructional salsa video called "Dips, Lifts, and Solos."  In 2003 Lisa moved to Miami and focused on teaching ladies' salsa styling.  Suburban living in Miami was not what she expected, so she decided to make another move to Orlando. There she began performing with Eric Baez of Universal Mambo Dance Academy a former dancer of Eddie Torres.  In 2008 Lisa partnered up with Sean Wilson, and together they are currently teaching and performing NY Style salsa (mambo on2).  Lisa is known for her rich variety of movements, unique styling, and smoothness.
