Our Lincoln Knitter's Guild meeting will be on Saturday, March 20. We will be
focusing on different methods of increasing. Please bring some scrap yarn and
needles to practice these useful increases.

**NOTE: The March Guild Meeting will be held at Trinity Baptist Church (3801
LaSalle Street, near 40th and Hwy. 2) due to a scheduling conflict at Walt
Library.**

Shawn will be introducing a new square or two for us to knit. If you have
squares from January or February, please bring them along.

Subject: Almost Everything 50% off! Restructuring SALE!

Dearest Customers,

First of all I'd like to thank you for your continued patronage over the
last FOUR years. I can hardly believe it's been that long! Due to the
economy and some changes in my life I am restructuring the store. In the
coming months I will be starting fresh and changing the focus of Diva
Knitting. This means HUGE savings for you! Most everything in the store is
50% off! Once it's gone, it may be gone from Diva Knitting for good. I
have not yet determined which (if any) yarn I will continue to sell so come
get it while you can! Dyers in particular may want to stock up on our
natural colored yarn and roving. Please buy now for best selection and then
forward this email to your friends, post about it on forums, etc. I could
use your help getting the word out about the sale.

A few notes/rules/information about the sale:

1. As you know in the past I have had everyday low pricing whenever
possible. For this sale to reflect your true savings, I have updated the
items to retail pricing and then taken the percent off.
2. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. If you have any questions about an item PLEASE
email info@... prior to ordering. There will be no returns for
any reason.
3. Shipping charges should be accurately calculated by the cart. Since
most items are at or below my cost, I am not offering free shipping.
4. I have consolidated some categories to make navigating the site easier
during the sale. If you are looking for something in particular, try our
advanced search feature to search by fiber, weight, etc.
5. No adjustments will be given on prior purchases. Please try to keep in
mind you got the benefit of the best selection and free shipping on your
purchases the last few weeks.

Take care and happy knitting!

REMINDER!!

This month's meeting will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 3801 La Salle Street, near 40th and Hwy. 2.  We'll be looking at different methods of increases.  It would be helpful to bring worsted weight yarn and appropriate sized needles and a small handful of stitch markers to practice these methods.

See you on Saturday!

Start planning for a new baby shower for Lisa which will be August 4, 2010 at
the South Barnes and Noble at 7 p.m.

Lisa prefers wool and other natural fibers for the shower gifts. She also would
like items that are "Pottery Barn" type colors instead of baby pastels or super
bright colors. She is having a boy.

Dear Knitters,
I was asked to demonstrate how to crochet squares together, which I will do at our next guild meeting.
I will only be using single crochet, chain, and slip stitch, so if you know how to crochet, it should be easy.
If you don't know how to crochet, I can show you at some point during the meeting.

If you want to try the techniques I will explain, you should bring some yarn and an appropriately sized crochet hook to work with (G or H for worsted weight).
Smooth, light-colored yarn will make it easier to see your stitches.
Also, bring a couple of knit or crochet squares to join.
You could use gauge swatches, or whip up a few small squares.
(Three-round granny squares work up quickly and will work fine.)

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best,
Jennifer

Tomorrow (Sat. 4/17/10) is our monthly Guild meeting.

We will be at the Walt Library on S. 14th St. from 1-4 p.m.

Jennifer is going to teach us to crochet squares together. She has joined our
last 2 charity blankets, and does it so effortlessly. We thought it might be a
nice skill to learn.

Her project "Victorian Afghan" is a finalist in the Afghans & Throws category of
the 2nd Annual Vanna's Choiceฎ Yarn Contest sponsored by Lion Brand Yarnฎ
Company and Michaels.

Anyone read a good book lately? (knitting/craft related) Want to share it with
the rest of us? Bring it along, or just tell us about it at the meeting.

Have you finished a project and want to share? Bring it along and let us know
all about it. We would love to oooh and aahh over it.

Are you stuck in a project you are working on? Stop in to get some ideas on how
to get unstuck. (Some day's you just can't do it alone.)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I have posted this month's easy square in the files section. The advanced square
will be "Joyful Children" from the Oddball file.

I hope to see everyone tomorrow. Enjoy the beautiful spring weather.

Shawn

I just wanted to post something about this month's Guild meeting.

We will be at Walt Library from 1-4 p.m. in one of the meeting rooms.

This month we are going to talk about summer knits.

What do you like to knit during the summer? Do you take the summer off to do
other fun things? Are you already starting on the holidays? Do you switch the
fiber you work with? or maybe the weight of yarn? How about the size of your
projects, does that change with the seasons?

Bring your ideas, favorite summer patterns, and come join us.

There will be a new square (posted in the files section of the yahoo group) to
try. If you have any squares done, please bring them to the meeting. Once we get
enough, we will practice our joining that Jen taught us in April.

We will also be talking about what supplies you will need for the June Hands-on
Dyeing Lab.

Looking ahead for the rest of the year:
June: Hands-on Dyeing Yarn (at Trinity Baptist Church so we can use the kitchen)
July: Mobius Knitting
August: Lace
September: Holiday Knits
October: Trick or Treat (at Trinity Baptist Church so we can have food)
November: Colorwork
December: Annual Ornament Exchange

I hope to see everyone there!

Be the change you want to see in the world

Welcome to the iknitlinks e-newsletter

May 2010

We have lots of things you can get involved in this month. They range from helping out with the research to helping those with learning disabilities, knitting on the run and even contributing to a Guinness World Record attempt! Knitting is certainly breaking out of its traditional boundaries in a big way.

The British Pain Society Annual Scientific Meeting

We had a very productive four days at The British Pain Society's Annual Scientific Meeting in Manchester last month. We were a little apprehensive at first because the other stands were large, purpose-built affairs populated by the big drugs companies. There were loads of freebies and even a specially designed Wii game to draw the health professionals towards the drugs stands. To put it simply, we were the only people using blutack! However, we'd planned the stand well and it stood out brilliantly. The backdrop was covered in lots of speech bubbles with quotes from knitters about how they use knitting to manage pain and these really struck a chord with the health professionals attending. We took along a large knitted throw and some vibrant yarn to illustrate the effect that colour and texture can have on raising feelings of wellbeing, so the stand attracted a lot of attention because it looked so different and colourful. We got a tremendous response, and as a result have a number of pain specialists and departments who are interested in starting up knitting groups. We'd like to match these departments up with volunteer knitters in their areas, so if you're interested, please contact Betsan at Betsan (at) Stitchlinks.com. Other health-based areas in which we are interested in developing groups are mental health (particularly depression and stress), addiction, palliative care, hospices and care homes, so please get in touch. This is a wonderful opportunity to improve the quality of life of many.

Knitting and Memory
We now have details of the Cardiff University study which will look at the effect of knitting on memory. It will take place on June 2nd - 18th. The psychologists concerned hope to run three experiments which each require 30 different volunteers, so we need to find 90 volunteers who would be willing to give 90 minutes of their time. Please contact Betsan for a list of available dates and time slots. Thank you to those who have already pledged some time to this study.

Knitting Survey

The knitting survey developed by Cardiff University and Stitchlinks has successfully negotiated the ethical committee hurdle and has full clearance to go online. Our plan is to test and pilot it in May and early June with the aim of getting it live online on June 21st to coincide with the end of the memory study mentioned above. Reminders will be posted on the iknitlinks and Stitchlinks websites. We need to find as many knitters as we can muster to fill this out as it is only online for a limited period.

Make one for Mencap

Get knitting to make money for Mencap! This is a collaborative project between I Knit Links, Mencap and The Knitter magazine. I Knit London Tea Party

A date for your diary! 19th June will see a tea party at I Knit London. These tea parties, now legendary, gather lots of knitters together to knit, chat, drink tea and eat cake. They also have a great purpose behind them. This particular tea party is about raising awareness of the projects and charities that we are involved in. We will be drawing your attention to the Mencap campaign and asking you to think about how you can get involved. Come and join us for a lovely afternoon of tea at the shop in Waterloo and don't forget to bring some cake and knitting!

Many knitting groups are taking part in the event - some are even knitting as they walk. It's quite straight forward to sign up and take part. You need to choose your event and location and raise money on-line where you will find lots of fundraising ideas for your groups. The information on the website will tell you what to expect on the day, what to bring with you and a timetable.

Books about Knitting

Knitting by Anne Bartlett is a work of fiction about friendship and knitting and is available from most bookshops. When Sandra is widowed in her early 40s, with no children to distract her, and an unsatisfying career as a college lecturer, she feels she needs a new direction in her life. This comes in the unlikely shape of Martha, a woman she meets completely randomly when they both stop to help in a medical emergency in a shopping mall. Martha has also experienced grief, but appears to have worked it through. She is also a keen, talented, but almost obsessive knitter who lives and breathes her skill. Sandra is fascinated by her work and eager to develop other strands to her career, so decides to organise an exhibition on the history of women's clothing and textiles, asking Martha to help her by creating replicas of various items. What follows is not a conventional friendship, nor a conventional healing, but it nevertheless changes Sandra's life very much for the better.

Let us know how you get on with this good read!

Knitting and Activism

If ever you needed to be told or reassured that knitting has a calming effect on the mind and enables you to think more clearly and develop your thoughts, this is the woman for you.

Dorothy Height passed away last month at the age of 98. She was an activist in the US civil rights movement and observed Martin Luther King delivering his 'I have a dream' speech. Throughout her life she fought injustice and racism. Advocating equal rights for US citizens became her life's work and this was recognised by the many awards she received. In between fighting for civil rights for black people in America, Dorothy found time to knit. At a civil rights conference once she was admonished for knitting while the debates were taking place. She boldly retorted that knitting kept her more awake and more alert than the other delegates!
