Description

I've been an avid gardener all my life. I first caught the gardenbug at my grandfather's side, in his garden. Over the years I have developed some physical limitations. I've learned to continue gardening in spite of them. I've learned lots of helpful tips & tricks to make it easier for me to continue with my passion of gardening, and small scale farming, yet try to stay within my boundaries of physical ability as much as possible. I am eager to learn & share more ideas from people, like me, who have found other ways to continue gardening/farming. I started this group because I could not find a group like this anywhere on the WWW. This is not a whiny "poor me" group about all the things we cannot do but, a list of other gardeners/farmers who refuse to give up on their dreams, and instead, have found helpful hits and tips on how to still do what is their passions, without further aggravation to their injuries. I've found sites on W/C gardening and container gardening and those are wonderful sites too but I am always searching for more ideas & more useful information to learn from others, like me. Some of the things I've learned are: To use a short piece of PVC pipe when planting seeds so that I don't have to be on my knees or do excessive bending. I use children's garden tools as the handles are shorter & lighter weight so they can be used with only one hand! I have fashioned tools to turn on and off the irrigation valves with much more ease. My, preferred, method of gardening is cottage gardening but, due to the close & small detail work it requires, that way has become much too difficult for me to continue. I garden with power tools whenever I can! A small tractor with a bucket & a small rototiller. Now, I am learning to garden the SFG method in retired frigerator boxes with as little detail work as possible like; weeding, watering, deadheading and pruning. We are a family friendly group! Join only if you are too!!! To keep out weeds all "new" members are moderated!
