Welcome to NYC Metro Liberal Hawks. This Yahoo Group began 2 years ago as a listserv for New Yorkers who read the Little Green Footballs blog and liked to meet occasionally. Members now also include Protest Warrior activists, Bush campaign volunteers, members of various NYC Republican groups, and like-minded friends.

We run the gamut from liberal to ex-liberal to libertarian to conservative, but we all agree on aggressively fighting terrorism (with combat troops as necessary), promoting the founding principles of this country, allying with other democracies, and countering the goals and rhetoric of the anti-American antiglobalization movement. We also like hanging out with people we disagree with. (See the links in the left sidebar for more attempts to define this constituency.)

Purposes of this group:
- Clearing house for events of interest to members, which include but go beyond the calendars of local political organizations. (Ex: movies about Iraq, protests at the UN, lectures only publicized in the Jewish community, local political campaigns)
- Connecting with like-minded people, through discussion, social events and activism
- As a result, developing a constituency more diverse than conventional political labels but more focused on the issues where we agree.

Group rules:
- To avoid clogged inboxes, please be thoughtful about debate, avoiding "me too" posts or lengthy quoting (give a link to the original article instead).
- The list is currently unmoderated. If any flame wars or other misuse of the list begin, offending members' posts will be moderated.
- Do post links to online discussion forums and blogs, as well as local events, which members would be interested in.
- Feel free to promote the group to compatible individuals.
