Than I worked in Germany, we used a special Vacuumcleaner, called
Typengreif, which has a set of swtches for different sizes of type and
basically has a rubbernose with a fine meshscreen inside , which sucks
up the type without damaging it, all the dust is cleared away and with
an flap on the backof the nose you would release the type into the tray.
One could move and clean a tray of type in about 20 minutes.

A suggestion that was given to me was a good one: If the type you are sorting is really dusty, put a couple layers of cheesecloth SECURELY over the vacuum hose...
