Description

This is the learnjapanese2 group, here to help people who wish to learn Japanese, and Japanese people who wish to learn English, in a relaxed and friendly community. New members are welcome from all over the world.

New members

Please introduce yourself when you join the group! We want to know who you are and what's your interest in Japanese, and to welcome you!

Existing members

You know how valuable our group is! Please try to promote it - in your Japanese class or in your local Japanese discussion group. A good idea is to put a link to the group in your e-mail or forum signature.

Also, consider joining as co-moderators. This group is now moderated. The more moderators there are, the quicker approvals will flow.

A note about Japanese encoding and Yahoo! Groups

One of the problems with the current web interface offered by Yahoo! is that it doesn't support Japanese encoding. Messages containing Japanese text, sent using the web interface, are re-encoded into ISO-8859-1, which almost always results in gibberish. We strongly recommend using mail (not Yahoo! Mail - we recommend Gmail) rather than the web to post. For a detailed explanation, click "Files" on the left, and then click on "Japanese Encoding and Yahoo! Groups".

Some history

The "Learn Japanese" Yahoo! group was started by the user "gaspode38" on November 25, 1998. The original group has been abandoned due to spam, and this group was born instead. This group is now moderated. Most old members followed, making the new group a warm community. No one knows the fate of gaspode38, but here is the welcome message from the original group:

Description:

I hope that English people can find help with their Japanese here and vice versa. People who speak any other languages are of course welcome!
