Thank you to Pamela McLean for your ongoing fundraising efforts. I
acknowledge receipt from you and Michael of a total of 330 GBP these last
two days. Also, thank you to Robert in Atlanta ($10), this is great!
I spoke with Dennis Kimambo. We are in good agreement about our
principles for sharing the funds as I wrote:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/holistichelping/message/1872
I instructed Dennis to spend about one-third on our close friends in need,
such as Samwel Kongere, who is very seriously ill, he has had only milk
and water these last twelve days. Samwel is the heart of our network in
Kenya and his quest for an East African regional network is bearing fruit
today in our time of need. Samwel needs transport from Rusinga Island to
Kisumu to receive proper care. This is about 100 USD because of the
difficulty negotiating the road. Dennis correctly decided against
visiting himself because the risks are great for all, but especially for
non-Lous. Dennis will forward the money to Samwel's family for pick-up.
Thank you to Tom Ochuka in Kisumu, Kennedy Owino in Nairobi, Sasha Mrkailo
in Serbia, Maria Agnese Giraudo in Italy, Ricardo in the UK and all for
caring for Samwel.
About one-third of the money should go to projects like the Peace Caravan
that our participants see help us work together and address the gravest
needs we see that others (such as the government or NGOs) will never be
able to meet. And at least one-third should go to those who we don't even
know, especially those from opposing tribes, simply to encourage the
practice of sharing back and forth and reaching outward and encouraging
the public posting of telephones so that people around the world can get
involved. We have learned that this is a global issue and that we all can
and must participate and have that opportunity. Certainly donations from
those we don't (yet!) know such as Robert will go to keep this network of
sharing alive, that is our Pyramid of Peace.
I have sent about $240 in phone credits to Dennis Kimambo +254 722 388 275
and about $95 to Kenedy Owino +254 723 568 251 which they will receive
tomorrow and now I will try to send some cash to Dennis.
I have reached my limit of sending money through Western Union's Internet
service. I will try to find an on-the-ground location here in Rome, Italy
where I am until tomorrow when I fly back home to Lithuania. In
Lithuania, I will be able to send money through our post office's Western
Union office. But in principle it would be good if more of our key
members (Pamela McLean, Janet Feldman, Asif Daya, ...) were signed up for
Western Union Internet http://www.westernunion.com to have that option
available because of the limits (14 transfers in 30 days, about $4,000
total for me) which are simply for Internet initiated transfers.
Thank you to Benoit Couture for responding to Emmanuel Wandera's violent
thoughts which I overlooked. I sent an SMS to Emmanuel to thank him again
for his excellent reports but to emphasize that violence is wrong.
Working together we will find peaceful ways how to address looters and all
manner of troublemaking.
Eluned Hurn, my sadness with you at your loss of your sister Gwyn in Wales
in these days. Thank you for your great spirit which has brought us the
value of "fighting peacefully" and those who inspire you move us, too.
Yesterday evening Riccardo Moro invited me for dinner with his mother who
is Polish and lived in Vilnius in her childhood before World War II. She
went back recently and the buildings had changed but she found the tree
and yard where she played. Poles and Lithuanians and Russians and Jews
and Germans suffered a wide spectrum of love and hatred in that time and
partly it is healing thanks to good will of people. Riccardo is
interested that we have a global network that communicates with the
marginalized peoples and isolated individuals. He is excited for what we
are doing. We have many brave souls in Kenya who are letting us post
their telephone numbers and making themselves available.
http://www.worknets.org/wiki.cgi?HelpKenyans Now we need many people to
call them or send them text messages and help spread their news. How can
we encourage that worldwide? Riccardo suggested approaching talk radio
shows if they might take this up and call Kenyans.
Dennis wants to print t-shirts that say "Humanity before Politics" and I
suggested that it be written in the many tribal languages of Kenya. He
liked that idea. We need powerful symbols, as Antonia Moro wishes, to
communicate values such as peace. Mixed demonstrations, with people from
various tribes, as well as multi-tribal symbols such as the t-shirts allow
one to boldly identify with many tribes and not let us be categorized and
divided. We need money for a newspaper advertisement and so when I return
to Lithuania I will do the accounting for our Pyramid of Peace - thank you
to Dennis and Kenedy for your reports - and then appeal and reach out
further.
