Salsa/Mambo Classes Starting Wednesday

Do you want to take a salsa class that is like one you've never taken
before?! Take this hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves,
all-the-cards-on-the-table, fast-paced, you-even-have-to-do-homework,
salsa class!

What: Mambo-style salsa "on 2"
The main focus will be timing, rhythm, style, body movement and even
a little music theory. There will also be footwork patterns taught,
as well as some partner combinations. If you are taking another
salsa class in U-C, this is a great complement to that class; the
same material will not be covered.

When: Wednesdays 7pm-8:30pm. Class includes an hour and ten minutes
of instruction, followed by 20 minutes of social dancing.
6 weeks, starting February 4 (that's this Wednesday!) Attendance at
first class is required. (Students who took our class last semester
are invited for the intermediate class from 8:30-10pm.)

Where: Near downtown Champaign - more details provided for those who
sign up. There's a huge mirror on the wall, which makes this the
best place to learn how to move your body!

Who:
Teachers: Juan and Erika
* Juan began dancing salsa while living in Ecuador. He continued his
training in Chicago and Champaign. He has attended two salsa
congresses in Chicago, and an international congress in Puerto Rico,
in addition to numerous workshops with professors from New York and
elsewhere.
* Erika trained in salsa while living in New York City and Boston.
After moving to Champaign, she continued training by attending
workshops and salsa congresses, including Chicago, Puerto
Rico, and Spain. You will also see her in the U-C area commercial
for the Regent Ballroom.

Students: This class is for dancers of all levels who are serious
about learning and improving, and can make a commitment to six weeks
of class time and individual practice at home. Beginners - and
advanced dancers - welcome - there's much for everyone to learn. No
partner necessary.

Why: To begin to dance salsa, to improve your body movement and
timing, or to add new, creative styling to your salsa.

How: This class will be limited to eight people to maximize your
individual attention. To reserve your place in the class, please
reply to this e-mail. The fee is $40 for the six weeks. Your fee
will be due by the end of the first class.

Mambo-style salsa is sweeping the world! There are now mambo/salsa
dancers, nightclubs, and/or live bands in USA, Canada, Venezuela,
Argentina, Spain, Italy, UK, France, South Africa, Hong Kong,
Singapore, Japan, and many countries more! If you want to be able to
dance in any part of the world, this is the salsa for you to learn!
Not to mention, of course, that it's a BLAST, and gosh darn SEXY!!
