social meeting this week.

REMEMBER! There is *no* meeting next week, as the University is closed.

Hi all

There will be a meeting of the Japanese animation society today, starting
at 7:00pm in Lecture Theatre 3, New Building, Leicester University campus.
The video programme will likely include Slayers Next, Bakuen Campus
Guardress, Saber Marionette J, and whatever random tapes I happen to find
in that cardboard box :)

The London Anime Club WILL be meeting this coming Sunday, at the
Pontefract Castle on Wigmore St (I hope they've got a nice _big_ meeting
room... @_@;;). If anyone wants to join the happy little band travelling
down to LAC and Yaohan Plaza, please speak to me at the meeting as space
is limited.

The room booking for LT3 officially restarts on 18th January (students

Hi all

There will be a meeting of the Japanese Animation Society this evening in
New Building LT3, starting at 7:00pm. A new committee will be elected at
this meeting, by fair means or foul... stand still too long and _you_
could be "volunteered" ;)

Directions from Leicester City Station: come out of the main doors and
turn left up the main road. Continue walking until you reach a church on
the right hand side of the road. Turn right into University Road, just
before the church. Continue straight on over two sets of traffic lights
until you reach the campus itself. Turn left into Entrance 2 (Mayor's
Walk). Follow the campus maps to the New Building (it's next to the
Students' Union, turn right at the crossroads on Mayor's Walk).

Note to people with Hotmail accounts: email from Hotmail addresses gets
redirected by the spam filter on the department mailserver. Chances are
I'll never see your mail :P

starting at 7:00pm in Lecture Theatre *THREE* (our usual venue for this
term). Hopefully we won't get any more last minute room changes, but I
can't guarantee it :-P

The next weekend meeting of the London Anime Club will be Sunday 5th
December. If you're interested in a trip to Oriental City, a
Japanese-owned shopping mall with the biggest Japanese bookshop in Europe,
together with a visit to LAC to see some of the newest and best anime, let
me know asap as space is limited!

To those of you who couldn't make it to AyaNext, the anime convention
in Birmingham last weekend, you missed a great party ^_^ I dare say one or
two people this evening will be telling you at length all about the anime
you missed, and showing off the seriously cool stuff they bought in the
dealer rooms...^_^;;

Anyway, back to business. There will be a meeting of the Japanese
Animation Society this evening at 7:00pm in LECTURE THEATRE ***ONE***
(same part of the building as LT2...). Apologies for the move, but there's
nothing I can do about it, there's some kind of botanical society meeting
going on in LT3 this week :P There will be signs up in case you lose your
way...

We'll take a vote as to what to watch, but we've got lots of new stuff
available, including the apocalyptic SF movie "End of Evangelion", and the
action/comedy "Saber Marionette J".

Channel 4 "Dope Sheet" special on anime shown recently, featuring one or
two familiar faces...;) We will also be showing Slayers Next, Blue
Submarine No. 6 and Flame of Recca.

AYANEXT '99
===========

The AyaCon Committee is proud to announce AyaNext, the second in the Aya
series of Japanese animation conventions, to be held at the fan-favourite
venue of the Grand Hotel, Birmingham on 5th-7th November 1999.

Three Guests of Honour are confirmed so far: Helen McCarthy (award-winning
writer and former editor of Anime FX and Manga Mania), Steve Kyte
(accomplished professional artist and illustrator) and Jonathan Clements
(editor of Manga Max magazine).

The convention programme will include all the anime-related antics fans
have come to expect: five video rooms showing the newest and best in
Japanese animation, a video games room with the latest console and arcade
machines, two dealer rooms to part you from your hard-earned money, a
masquerade, anime karaoke and much more. The committee and meerkats (not
gophers, we're more evolved ^_-) are slaving day and night to bring you
the best convention we possibly can.

'Welcome to AyaNext' party
--------------------------
We've decided to do away with the stuffy old 'Opening Ceremony' idea.
Instead we'll be hosting a social event on the Friday night beginning with
the Committee introducing themselves and a clip from their favourite video
item at Aya.  We'll then encourage you to meet up with old friends and
make new ones while various anime themed games of the 'Non Powered Games
Night' are rolled out. Some of you may remember Animopoly last year! Well,
we'll have several more this year. As this will be set in the bar, we
intend to have large bowls of punch, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic,
available. We see this a great chance for Con newbies to meet the old
hands and make new friends.

Five video streams running simultaneously
-----------------------------------------

We will be running five separate video rooms at AyaNext (that's one more
than last year!). There will be 4 video streams of subtitled anime. We aim
to include as much as we can from the last few seasons on Japanese TV,
with titles such as Adventures of Mini-Goddesses, Steam Detectives, Fancy
Lala and Mega Burst Space Maze already penciled in. We will also be
running a fifth 'Retro British' stream, with such classics as Mysterious
Cities of Gold and the English dub of Nuku-Nuku for you to reminisce over.
The late-night programme will include at least two "adult" streams, with
hentai anime and Jim McLennan's classic live-action video programme. With
this choice you're sure to find something to your liking.
