Hello Victoria.

That is absolutely fine with me. If you would like to send over the lyers FAO
Pete Ardley then I will pop them in the pigeon holes.
Also if you have an e-flyer then send that to me as well and I will email it to
all the groups.

I hope that helps

Thanks

Hello Peter,

I have recently joined the SSDS and will be working with Mandy Weston on the
Tomorrow's Managers event that is taking place in March next year. I don't know
if you are familiar with it but the event is a two day insight into Management
with some of the country's top employers giving briefings and talks.

We are hoping that if we give you some leaflets you can drop these into the
clubs and societies pigeon holes.

We would be very grateful for your help; we have around 55 students signed up
already and have 90 places to fill.

Thank you in advance,

Victoria.

Please can you pass this on to all your society members:

Dear Student,

It has come to my attention recently that some of you living in catered
halls are finding that you miss the evening meal due to society
arrangements. I have spoken to the residential and catering services
about this and they informed me that with prior arrangements you would
be able to get food before dinner time or after. The times they have
indicated it would be suitable are anytime from 5pm until about 7.30/8
depending on your hall. This arrangement can only happen with prior
arrangement and so you would need to talk to your halls manager about
this. Clive Williams is in charge of food and beverages overall, so you
could email him on cw79@... or alternatively speak to your halls
managers directly.

I hope this helps,

Best Wishes,

Kate

Dear Student,

The U.K. Council for International Student Affairs are conducting a
survey into the Tier 4 student visa process. This will feed into a
government review on the changes that have been implemented this year to
the student visa application process.

I would greatly encourage any student to fill out the confidential
survey so that your views in the system are represented on a national
level and also to pass on these details to any other international
students you know because the more people that fill out the survey the
more representation we receive.

Paintball Soc

Dear society President,

If you are planning to do a Paintball social we would like to offer our
resources to you:

We have access to an exclusive membership deal from Rebel Paintball in Ratby:-

£35 for a full day including equipment hire, insurance, lunch, tea and coffee
all day and 700 paintballs

or

£25 for an afternoon, including equipment hire, insurance, tea and coffee all
day and 500 paintballs

These prices are equivalent to around half of what you would pay with most other
companies in Leicester, or without taking advantage of our deal.

We would also be happy for you to use our deal on transport: £50 per 16 people.

To arrange a Paintball Social through us:

1. E-mail us at uol.paintball@... with a date you would like to go and
details of how many people are going.

2. We require a deposit of £10 per person (this will count towards the money you
pay on the day, e.g. for a full day you pay £10 deposit and then the extra £25
when you arrive there)

3. There is also a fee of £1 per person to go to the Paintball society to allow
you to use our deals.

4. You can pay us in person or online, simply e-mail us at the above address.

5. We will arrange the rest for you! (transport etc.)

Thanks

To whom it may concern,

RAG are calling out to any minibus drivers who will be available to drive a
minibus to Holyhead on Friday 4th December, leaving University at roughly
10:30am and back to Leicester on Sunday 6th December, leaving Holyhead at
roughly 3:30pm.

In return for this kind gesture, we are offering you and a friend a free weekend
trip to Dublin (the ferry and accommodation are all arranged and paid for).

Alternatively, if you cannot give up the whole weekend, you may drive the
minibus to Holyhead and drop us off at the ferry port, and then pick us up on
the Sunday. (Or we could ask 2 drivers to do one leg of the journey each?)

Please reply to either Natasha Sabin (ns186) or Holly Drinkwater (hjd5) if you
are interested.

Kind Regards,

Leicester RAG.

Hi Louise, Could you send this email out to all societies please? Thanks
very much

Dear International Student,

These awards are completely different from other student competitions
because rather than focusing on academic achievements, they want to hear
about the whole international student 'experience'. Do you play an
active role in institution life or get involved in your local community,
perhaps through volunteering? Has your new life in the UK changed your
outlook and the way you think? Have you developed new interests since
settling here, overcome personal challenges or achieved any long-held
ambitions or goals? If you can answer yes to any of these questions then
they’d love to hear your story.

It’s easy to enter. Simply write a letter telling them all about your
time in the UK and how the UK has challenged and excited you. The panel
of judges – NUS representatives, education professionals and British
Council colleagues – will choose the best letters to become shining
examples of UK life for future international students.

Who can enter?

The competition is open to all international students aged 15 or over,
studying at an eligible institution on a full-time course of study
lasting for a minimum of six months

Prizes

You stand an excellent chance of success because there are 36 individual
cash prizes up for grabs!

The prizes are to be spread throughout the UK:

       * each of 12 regional finalists will be treated to a fantastic,
all-expenses paid trip to London for a two-day celebration that
will include a night’s accommodation in the capital city and the
chance to ‘glam-up’ for a prestigious awards’ presentation
         ceremony
       * the overall winner – the International Student of the Year 2010
will receive £2,000 and a commemorative award
       * 11 other regional finalists will receive £1,000 and a
         commemorative award
       * 24 runners-up – two from each of 12 UK regional areas – will
receive a £100 cash prize and a commemorative certificate.

FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE COMPETITION PLEASE LOOK ON:
www.educationuk.org/shine

Deadline for applications: 18th January 2010

If you know anyone else who would be interested in entering this
competition please pass on the details!

Best Wishes,

Kate

Dear Student,

I am working in collaboration with the university on a national campaign called
'The Big Tidy up'

The University of Leicester is working with Keep Britain Tidy to champion the
'Big Tidy Up' campaign in Leicester. We want to encourage students and staff to
get involved to make the campus and community a cleaner, greener place for
everyone to live. If you hate litter and would like to do something positive
to help keep your local area clean and tidy, why not join our Big Tidy Up
campaign?

We're planning our own Big Tidy Up on Wednesday 9th December from 1-3pm.
Volunteers will go out in teams to pick up litter and collect rubbish from the
campus and local community to make the place cleaner and greener for everyone.
Volunteers will have a chance to win an ipod and we'll be providing mulled wine,
mince pies and hot drinks for everyone who takes part. If you'd like to get
involved with the University of Leicester Big Tidy Up click here to register
your interest. For more information on the national Big Tidy Up Campaign,

* Win a bike (and have your old one fixed up for free)!
* Have your say about cycle parking, crowded buses and all things

* Calculate your Uni travel carbon footprint

Students are invited to submit their views in a new travel survey. Your replies
to the survey will shape the Travel Plan and you could win a bike.

We will be distributing paper copies at the Percy Gee on Thurs 19th Nov and you
can also get your current bike fixed at our free mobile bike workshop (first

You can also have your say at

This survey will inform the University's travel plan and carbon footprint
calculation, which are vital if we are to keep improving our Green League Table

A draft Travel plan will be available for consultation in March next year.

Ponyo (U with subtitles)                       Sun 22nd November, 11.00, Family Matinee Screening at the Hyde Park Picture House
In the latest offering from Studio Ghibli, the greatest living film animator and storyteller, Hayao Miyazaki transforms The Little Mermaid fairytale into Ponyo, a magical and universal cinema experience that shines so bright all else seems grey. Ponyo is a little goldfish with a girl’s face who escapes the underwater home of her sorcerer father to explore the surface. She is discovered by Sosuke, a 5-year-old boy living on the top of a cliff by the sea. As Ponyo grows closer to Sosuke, her desire to become fully human strengthens. Screening in the original Japanese language version with English subtitles.

Animation Shorts Competition 1 (PG with some subtitles)Wed 11th November, 18.00, Hyde Park Picture House
One of the regular annual favourites of the Film Festival is the International Animation Competition, this year presented in two selections of outstanding visions on consecutive nights. The first programme explores the endless search for love, the uphill struggle against loneliness, and traditional living. Varmints (UK) shows us a world of urbanization and indifference in which a small creature tries to preserve the beauty he once knew. In the Oscar-winning The House of Small Cubes (Japan), an old man hunts for his pipe as his home slowly disappears in water.

Summer Wars (12A with subtitles)Wed 18th November 20.30, Fri 20th November 16.00, Sun 22nd 13.30, Hyde Park Picture House
‘Astounding anime... dazzlingly imaginative... the future king of Japanese animation may be with us’ - The Japan Times. Summer Wars is the captivating and spectacular new animated feature from Mamoru Hosoda, director of The Girl who Leapt through Time. Millions are addicted to the vast online world of Oz. Maths genius Kenji tears himself away from Oz to escort his crush Natsuki to her formidable Great Grandma’s 90th. The family gathering is not what Kenji expected and soon he is the brains of a kindred force out to defeat the Oz-invading, Earth-ending Love Machine virus.

First Squad (15 with subtitles)                                              Fri 6th November 13.00, 18.00 Vue
Russian writing duo Misha Sprits and Aljosha Klimov summon the powers of Japanese anime maestros Studio 4C and music wizard DJ Crush for a momentous tale of an elite teenage fighting squad and demonic terror in World War II. As Germany attacks deeper into Russia in 1942, an SS occult order is set to unleash the destruction of phantom knight Baron von Wolff. The Russians prepare to counter the Baron with miracle teenager Nadya who can foresee critical moments in battles and change the course of history. First she must reunite with her friends from the beyond, the pioneers of the First Squad.

René Laloux Retrospective

Gandahar (12 with subtitles)                                                     Fri 16th November 16.30, Carriage Works 1
http://leedsfilm.com/films.aspx?id=1034                                                                                                                                                                                                                                René Laloux’s last haunting animation is adapted from an Isaac Asimov story and was a huge hit in  France. Taking in genetic experiments and the importance of organic farming, it resonates today more than ever. Life in the idyllic paradise of Gandahar seems peaceful until the Mirror Birds report that villagers have been turned to stone. Sylvain is appointed to investigate and uncovers a deformed underground race and an oversized motherbrain, both the result of botched genetic experiments.

Les Maitres du Temps  (PG with subtitles)                                  Sat 7th November 14.30, Carriage Works 1           http://leedsfilm.com/films.aspx?id=1033
René Laloux followed his classic Fantastic Planet with another strange and sophisticated sci-fi animation, the rarely screened Les Maîtres du Temps, working alongside the legendary sequential artist, Jean ‘Moebius’ Giraud. 7-year-old Piel is the sole companion of his father on an exploration of the planet Perdide. Following an attack by a swarm of space hornets, Dad knows he won't survive, so sends his son into an alien forest with an egg-shaped communication device.

Fantastic Planet (PG with subtitles)                                              Fri 6th November 18.30, Carriageworks 1
René Laloux’s mesmerising psychedelic sci-fi allegory is a landmark of European animation. The film prefigures much of the work of Hayao Miyazaki in its blending of fantastical storytelling, beautiful artwork, political and social concerns. ‘Oms’ are human-like creatures, kept as domesticated pets by an alien race of blue giants called ‘Draags’. The story takes place on the Draags’ planet Ygam, where Terr manages to escape enslavement to organise an Om revolt. Screening with René Laloux’s short film Les Escargots (France, 1965, 10 mins)

Film show: Tues 6th October @ 7pm: "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time"
Attenborough Film Theatre, Attenborough Tower, Leicester Uni campus

What would you do if you could "leap" backward through time? When
tomboyish 17-year-old Makoto Konno gains this ability after an
accident in her high-school chemistry lab, she immediately sets about
improving her grades and preventing personal mishaps. Before long,
however, she realises that even innocuous changes can have terrible
consequences. Changing the past is not as simple as it seems, and
eventually Makoto will have to rely on her new powers to shape the
future for herself and her friends.

Features brilliant character designs by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Neon
Genesis Evangelion), and stunning visuals by long time Studio Ghibli
Art Director Nizo Yamamoto.
