Looks like the weather will break at about 2PM on Saturday, so the Christmas Paddle is still a go!  Remember that the plan is to meet up at the Beaver Park boat landing at 6PM and get on the water after shuttling the cars down to River Ranch.  Everyone should try to arrange their own shuttles.  The plan is to park at the Breast Center of Louisiana on the left side of the building near the open field.  The take out of the bayou is not improved (no dock) so bring some rubber boots or shoes that can get a little wet.  It is possible to take out under Camelia bridge and not get wet, but it is a long ways from the parking lot.  There will be several experienced paddlers their to help out so don't worry.

Highland Waters was a roaring success this year!  We had a record turnout of 15 overnight campers!  Even CaCa Sonnier made an appearance before the trip was over.  There was a warm fire for our entire stay thanks to Mike's firewood donation and Carl's skill with the flame.  We ate way too much with the bountiful cornucopia of eats that everyone brought including two types of chili, crab/crawfish bisque, homegrown salad greens, potato and chicken soup; just to name a few.  There were some paddling excursions to sandy cove and a night paddle into Lake Fausse Pointe.  The rest of the story will remain in the mind of a passing gator or a spying screech owl, as you know "What happens at Highland Waters, stays at Highland Waters".  I hope we can have an even larger turn out next year!

Don't forget the Christmas paddle on Saturday!

Thanks for the directions, Robert. I'm still trying to get over a bug I picked up though, so I'm going to skip the longer paddle after all, and assuming I'm feeling ok by Sat. I'll launch from the park boat ramp later in the day.

How long a drive is it between Marshfield landing and the state park? I was originally thinking I'd paddle in late Friday like I did last year, but with the weather forcast sounding a bit cold, wet and breezy I think I'll wait until Saturday to arrive. I'll bring pumpkin cookies.

For those camping on friday nite, you may arrive mid-day on friday( or before). The site is Highland Waters Primitive Canoe Campsite #4. Ask the attendant for a map to the site. It is about a mile paddle from the public boat dock.

Meet me at Albertsons in Broussard off of Hwy. 90 at 8:00Am. There is an improved parking lot at Marshfield Landing. It cost $2.00 to park and I believe it is lit at night.

Thanks for the directions, Robert. I'm still trying to get over a bug I picked
up though, so I'm going to skip the longer paddle after all, and assuming I'm
feeling ok by Sat. I'll launch from the park boat ramp later in the day.

From the Park, take Levee Rd 169 south. Turn left at Hwy 3083 and cross the
wooden bridge. Go to Coteau Holmes and take left at Hwy 679 which becomes Hwy
345. Take left at Hwy 86. Continue thru the town of Loreauville another 3-5miles
past the town. Turn left at Parish Rd 402. Turn Right at Gondron Rd. Another
left back on Par. Rd 402 which is also Marshfield Landing Rd. Landing is at the
end of the road.

Meet me at Albertsons in Broussard off of Hwy. 90 at 8:00Am. There is an
improved parking lot at Marshfield Landing. It cost $2.00 to park and I believe

Hello Everyone:

Looks like the forecast for Friday night is holding solid on 80% chance of winter storm during the night http://www.katc. com/8-day- forecast/.  Those of us who planned to go Friday night have decided to arrive Saturday morning at the Lake Fausse Point boat landing at about 9AM.  Anyone wishing to join us and help set up camp can plan on arriving around that time.  Keith will have his motor boat available to ferry any bulky items to the campsite.  It will be a cold night on Saturday as well, so bring plenty of warm clothes.  There should be an ample supply of firewood so a large hot fire should be possible.  Anyone arriving later than 9 can give us a call and we can meet you with the motorboat if necessary or just paddle to meet you (1 mile paddle).

I will have a speaker dock for any MP3 player for music later in the night, as well as a 10 cup coffee pot for the morning.  Bring utensils and a mug/ glass.  I bought some paper plates and bowls for everyone that can be burned in the fire.  I also bought six fire starter logs with some lighter fluid.  Anything that you think we might be missing, don't hesitate to bring!  Also, start thinking about places you want to paddle in the Spring of 2010!

I picked up the shower enclosure, toilets, and table from Pack and Paddle to use this weekend.  Bring your solar shower if you wish.
