Description
This group will be of interest to anyone who wants to see a human future for working people. The discussions here are mainly focused on the progress and problems of class-struggle movements in Latin America, with emphasis on Mexico, Venezuela, and Argentina, with attention as well to workers' struggles in Europe.
Anyone who is on the side of working people and against the exploiting class is cordially invited to join and participate in the Labor Action e-mail discussion group, which will also make important stories from the leftist press in Latin America available in English. Many political documents and news reports from Latin America are already available in English at the site of the Fracción Trotskista--Cuarta Internacional http://www.ft-ci.org/?lang=en which is frequently updated. For US residents, the closest section of the Fracción Trotskista is the Liga de Trabajadores por el Socialismo, of Mexico. Their web page is available at http://www.ltscc.org.mx
On the night of October 10, 500 militarized police occupied the premises of Luz y Fuerza del Centro, evicting the workers. The reactionary Calderón regime has dismissed 46,000 unionized electrical workers in a brazen attempt to destroy their union, the SME. This brutal attack is aimed at the entire Mexican working class. The picture shows a massive workers' demonstration against the government's assault on the comrades of SME. Our comrades of the LTS in Mexico are calling for a national strike by Mexican workers in response to Calderón's attack. The call for a national strike, to recover Luz y Fuerza del Centro and restore the electrical workers' jobs, was heard from the podium of a massive demonstration in the Mexico City Zócalo on November 11. As the picture shows, the workers filled the Zócalo (the second largest public square on earth, after Moscow's Red Square)! Solidarity forever!
