Re: Emi's questions about the mamorukai party on Monday.
Monday's party will take place at Yamanekoya restaurant on Niosandori,
just north of Kamitori. It will start about seven o'clock (though I
guess some people might want to go early [we suggested seven because
that's the time most people are available]: the restaurant opens at 5.30
pm). If other people also want to go earlier, please let us know, and we
can all try to get there a little bit early.
The restaurant's telephone number is 096 343 6431, so if you get lost,
please call and ask for directions.
The party is being organised by the mamorukai (the support group) for
the two teachers who were fired from Kumamoto Kenritsu Daigaku because
they were gaijin. It is therefore a good cause to support for anyone
with interests in the internationalization of Kumamoto.
The party will cost however much you spend. There's no fixed price. If
you want to drink a couple of beers, then you'll just be charged for
that. (Beer at Yamanekoya costs about 400 yen for a glass.) If you want
to eat, then you'll be charged for your dinner. If you just want to
drink tea, you'll only pay for that.
Yamanekoya is a very good restaurant for such a party because it gives
individual bills to each person: you only pay for what you order. It's
also a very convenient, small, friendly place. The proprietor of the
restaurant, Ms Yoko Sato, is a very active, helpful and friendly member
of the mamorukai.
The party will NOT make money for the mamorukai. Its purpose is to give
people a friendly, informal atmosphere where we can discuss
anti-discrimination and human rights issues, and where people can find
out about the work of the mamorukai and the case of the Kenritsu Daigaku
teachers. If it's successful, we hope to organise a similar party each
month.
I hope to see you there.
