Hey Barbara,

Slippers aren't really difficult, the only real difference between them and most
hats is that you can't knit slippers in-the-round (at least not any patterns
I've seen), but the 3 patterns I've used including the one Cathy recommended all
end the same way as a hat - that is, you decrease to just a few stitches, cut
off all but a foot or so of the attached yarn (depending on what the pattern
says to do) and sew through the remaining stitches and pull tight.

By the way, Cathy has left the group. She will still accept slippers if anyone
wants to send them (most of mine were finished before I Yahoo's notice that she
was gone), but I probably won't keep the event on the calendar in the future,
unless I hear from Cathy that she'd still like to receive slippers. Being a
member here is not required to accept donations from Knitting Hope.

Whenever you mail donations to an event, you need to fill out your information
in the database, just your name and the date your package was mailed. You may
add more info (e-mail address, number/type of items, etc.) to the "name" field
if you wish, but it's not mandatory.

If you are hosting an event, when you receive a package please enter the date
received in the database. If the sender did not enter their info on the
database you may enter it for them (send date can be left blank if unknown).

For events where the receiver is not a member of Knitting Hope, please enter the
date you received an acknowledgement or thank-you note as the "date received".
If you choose to purchase tracking service from USPS, the date their website
says it was received is also acceptable.

Thank you all for helping to keep an accurate record of our donations.

I hope someone else besides me will be sending to Cathy, I've finished 4 pairs
and will probably stop when the 5th pair is done, I won't have time to make
another by the end of the month and have some Christmas items that need
attention.

Claire, we could send items directly to the knit shop, if they don't mind
receiving donations outside the group - we wouldn't have to tell them you gave
us the idea if you prefer not to be mentioned. :)

I was knitting for a group that took items for premies but I lost contact with the leader. I have done things with the local knit shop but then they collect it and deliver it so it feels awkward to piggy-back onto that.

I am hoping to be able to join in on your events after the holidays. So please keep me on the list and I’ll try to join in soon.

Thanks Barbara!

If we had like 50 people and 10 or 12 weren't donating it wouldn't be so bad,
but when that 10 or 12 is the majority, it sure makes a big difference. I will
at least keep the group going thru 2010 and we'll see what happens.

I would ask people on my other 2 Yahoo charity groups to join, but the owners
are possessive - in their eyes, if people here of another charity group they
will leave that one, they don't get the concept of
"additional" over "instead of". Unless there's something wrong with a group, I
would not drop one for another. And by "something wrong" I mean the people are
rude or I no longer have an interest in whatever their purpose is.

Ironically, the one group I've ever abandoned for meanness was a CHURCH group,
of all things - the owner's best friends were the worst offenders, they
constantly broke the rules posted on the home page (no flaming, no profanity, no
x-rated content, etc.) and the owner backed up her buddies no matter what they
did if anyone complained about the nastiness - if someone e-mailed her off-list,
she would post that message on the group and announce that so-and-so is too
uptight (polite version of what she actually said). I won't say meanness
doesn't happen on my other groups, but when it does occur the owners/moderators
are usually quick to put a stop to it.

Hi Anna,
I can't make any suggestions on how to make the group any better.  You are doing nothing wrong.  You are a wonderful group leader.
I looked back through the year, and you had wonderful events.  That was why I joined the group.  Your events!!!
I don't know why people join groups and then do nothing.  It doesn't cost very much money to send in just one item.  I believe in the Power of One!!!

I have been asking for events to put on next year's calendar since mid-summer, and so far I have receive ONE suggestion. With that and Cathy's regularly-schedule event for Christmas slippers, this leaves just 4 openings for this year.

I'm sorry to have to do this, but having received little or no response to anything I've posted, I'm forced to ask this question which gets asked by owners of other charity groups. If you haven't donated to any events this year, why are you here? There are 17 members, but fewer than 5 have donated at all throughout the year. Two people did give me good reasons why they haven't donated this year and a couple of others posted why they skipped specific events, but that doesn't explain why the rest have done nothing.

Previously I created a poll asking for changes, and the only 2 things which received more than one vote (it was still less than 5 votes) were to have bi-monthly events and weekly reminders. But those changes have made no difference in the donations.

So, now I'm asking you to PLEASE post on the group if you have any suggestions to make this group better, a problem with the new changes, or whatever, and feel free to e-mail me off list if you'd rather not have everyone see your messsage. Even if I don't agree with what you say, I will not be angry unless the message is abusive (name calling, threats, hateful remarks, etc.).

Thank you for "listening" to me, and I hope to hear from you! :)

this year.

I'm sorry to have to do this, but having received little or no response to
anything I've posted, I'm forced to ask this question which gets asked by owners
of other charity groups. If you haven't donated to any events this year, why
are you here? There are 17 members, but fewer than 5 have donated at all
throughout the year. Two people did give me good reasons why they haven't
donated this year and a couple of others posted why they skipped specific
events, but that doesn't explain why the rest have done nothing.

Previously I created a poll asking for changes, and the only 2 things which
received more than one vote (it was still less than 5 votes) were to have
bi-monthly events and weekly reminders. But those changes have made no
difference in the donations.

So, now I'm asking you to PLEASE post on the group if you have any suggestions
to make this group better, a problem with the new changes, or whatever, and feel
free to e-mail me off list if you'd rather not have everyone see your messsage.
Even if I don't agree with what you say, I will not be angry unless the message
is abusive (name calling, threats, hateful remarks, etc.).

Thank you for "listening" to me, and I hope to hear from you! :)

I have 3 pairs of slippers finished and 1 more in the works. I will see what I
can get done by Thanksgiving and then send them to Cathy.

Notes:   I have been sending items to this school for several years. They support over 300 children from aged 3 weeks to 18, they can use hats, scarves, gloves, and any other items you wish to make.

It's helpful if your name and address are inside the package so they know where to send the thank-you letter.

Also, if you need a receipt for tax purposes, please include an itemized list of what you're donating and estimated value (this part is NOT required).
