Hi,
My name is Stella Sutkiewicz, one of the president's of OPAFA, the
Anglim Fan Association. Recently I was looking for conventions in my
area and found that this was a real challenge. As a result I have
started a group at Yahoo! and am inviting convention promoters,
official actor, writer or other media figure representatives - fan
and professional, and regular attending fans to join. There are
different jobs to be done by each.
The goal is to break events down city by city, state by state, or
eventually perhaps country by country so that people can scan through
and find events in their area quickly and easily. The next goal is
for fans to help fans by supplying information about the area, those
who are either locals or regular attendees. Any information that
would make it more practical and enjoyable is welcome - info on
restaurants, photocopy shops, convenience stores, etc.
Please take a moment to read through the description from the sight
and if you know of anyone who would like to join, please pass this
post along!

The group is called publicizemyscificonvention@....
The location is

Welcome!
This group has been started for the benefit of amateur and
professional convention operators to promote their science-fiction
conventions, large or small, and for fans to find them. Both will
have a special opportunity to make the event more fan-friendly by
participating. Please read the guidelines below to begin doing so.
EVENT PROMOTERS and OFFICIAL ACTOR REPS - please, of course, post the
basics: places, dates, guests, events, anything you feel will make
your event/guest stand out. Include any relevant travel or area
information. In that last, however, you'll have some fan help!
Please include the city and state and name of your event in the
subject line of each post. ie Los Angeles, CA: Grand Slam
Have more than one event going on? No problem. Please put in the
subject line: Event Listings:(Convention Name)
This will let fans know that your full schedule is available in the
post.
FANS - We don't want stories about your convention experiences or
comments on the event; that's not the intent of this group. What
we'd like if you live in the area or have been to the event before is
info about the area that would help fans get there or enjoy the
convention more: info on restaurants or public transportation, nearby
hotels if the convention hotel has been filled, anything that a fan
would take into consideration.
And as asked above of the promoters - please put in the subject line
the city, state and name of the event and the type of info provided.
i.e.: Baltimore, MD: Shore Leave: Restaurants.
This list will change and grow. I hope it becomes a resource for
many years to come for both promoters and fans. Please respond to
this email at opafa@... <mailto:opafa@...> or join
the group for further information sharing. If you're not inclined to
join please delete this post as I may not be able to respond to a
large number of personal e-mails due to a somewhat hectic normal
life.
In fandom, OPAFA is my priority but I saw a gap here. You can,
incidentally - visit OPAFA's homepage at
www.angelfire.com/mo/gutterduck.
Hope to see infor from all of you soon!
