Is it cold enough for you?
Are you oh so SUPER excited about the
suggestion of snow?
The kids are daydreaming about running
home this afternoon
and sledding down the Escarpment hills
on trash can lids!
Ahhhh youth. . . .
As for school closing early, there is
no plan for that at this time.
Please stay tuned to the news or the
AISD website if the weather
changes unexpectedly. At this
time, we're not anticipating an
early release.
Bundle up, bring in your plants, and
enjoy the seasonal chill.
Here are a few highlights you won't
want to overlook this week:
The coat drive for Allison Elementary
continues through December 4
Math Pentathlon is about to begin and
is in need of a few faithful volunteers
(and no, you don't have to be a math whiz
to be a part of this great program)
Camp Read is still looking for people
who love to read and be read to
Kiker has a new policy regarding dogs
on campus
Finally, a loud Kiker CONGRATULATIONS
goes out to our Kindergarten
teacher, Michelle Edwards, who is getting
married this evening. We wish
Ms. Edwards and her new husband a long
and happy life together.
Well, here is another week's worth of
news and comments.
Pay special attention to picture re-take
day tomorrow, Nov. 10,
and the Veteran's Day assembly on Wednesday,
Nov. 11.
The Fall Centers were a big hit today.
Many of you learned about the
importance of leaving early --on busy
days like today, finding a parking
spot and checking in at the office can
be time consuming.
Next week we hope you have plans to
visit the Book Fair. Most of the
students have had a sneak preview and
I hear they're excited about
what they've seen.
Attached this week, in addition to the
Comments, is a "glog" about
an upcoming pancake breakfast at Applebee's
on November 14.
Take a peek, as it may feature someone
you know.
Did you wake up this morning and find
yourself singing
"Rainy Days and Mondays Always
Get me Down"?
Thankfully, there's always so much happening
here at
Kiker, there isn't time to be glum.
Fifth Grade is heading
out to Camp Allen later in the week,
the library will begin
preparations for the book fair which
begins next week,
and the students who participated in
the Reflections Program
will spend Thursday evening celebrating
their talents.
Finally a heartfelt Kiker Cheer goes
out to our Teaching
Assistant, Stephanie McGovern (Ms. Amy's
daughter),
who was married over the weekend.
We wish her and
Chris a long and happy life together.
Just a few quick notes, because it's
much too pretty to be
sitting inside. . .
- No school on Monday
- Principal's Coffee Talk on Tuesday
morning at 8:00am
- Finally, take a moment next
time you're in the building to appreciate
the
display of Reflections entries. Carrie Keith, Amy Young
and
friends spent the better part of the day hanging the
entries
on the walls surrounding the stage in the cafeteria.
We
have some very talented children here at Kiker this year!
Enough already! Go outside and
play! What a perfectly beautiful fall day!
See you all on Tuesday.
(NOTE: if you are unable to open
thi file, send me a reply and I will resend
the document to you directly.)
As I send this out is rainy and cool.
Again.
Whatever happened to the hot and sunny
Texas I've
come to love so much?!
This week's Comments includes:
an update on the Reflections collection
dates
upcoming Kiker Nights at Craig O's &
Cypress Grill
an invitation to the Fall Keynotes Concert
information on an Organization Workshop
for parents of children with ADD
a special note about a very important
Kiker Dad
Lastly, don't forget about Lunch with
Lori, Monday, Oct. 12 from 11:30 - 12:30.
Bring your lunch and join Principal
Schneider on the back deck. This is an
open forum. Come and get answers
to your questions, find out about
opportunities to get involved, and meet
other Kiker parents.
You know, Schlotzsky's is delicious every
night of the week. However,
Kiker will receive a portion of the
proceeds for each order placed by a
Kiker family on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Wow! There is always so much going
on around here!
Tonight is Kiker Night at Schlotzsky's,
tomorrow is
International Walk to School Day, Friday
is the PTA
Staff Appreciation Luncheon, and there's
a bunch of
our young learners headed out on field
trips as well.
The health clinic has been a busy place
this week.
PLEASE, do not send your child to school
if he or she
is not feeling up to par. Also,
you cannot reiterate
enough the importance of washing hands
and covering
coughs.
Please remember that students/staff
who are ill with flu like symptoms should not need a doctor’s note
to return to school. The recommendation from medical providers
for individuals with the flu (who do not have any chronic medical conditions
or are not in a high risk group) is to not go to the doctor to confirm
or treat the flu.
Unfortunately Principal Schneider has
been ill since Friday afternoon.
She will be staying home on Tuesday,
resting and recovering.
We will let you know when this even
has been rescheduled.
Thank you for your understanding.

Hello Kiker Parents-
Thanks to all the volunteers that donated
there time for the school supply fundraiser. We really appreciated all
your help and for taking time out of your summer schedule to help this
event to run smoothly. I apologize for not sending out a reminder for the
event, apparently we have a number of people who did not pick up their
school supplies. For this reason, there will have a second chance to pick
up your supplies on Thursday, August 20th from 4:30-6:30pm.
We will be set up somewhere near the teachers work room, depending on what
space is available to do this. We will also have t-shirts and water bottles
for sale.
Kiker Family
Volunteers needed to help teacher's prepare for the year! We need
volunteers to help in the Teacher's Work Room next week August 17 thru
August 21 from 9am to 11am making copies and laminating for our great
teachers. If you have never helped out in the TWR (Teacher's Work
Room)
I will train you on all the machines in the room. Please contact
me at
jksmiley@... if you can help. And we will also need
volunteers to help out during the week throughout the school year, let
me know if you would like to help out on a weekly basis.
Thank you so much,

Hello Parents-
I hope you are having a wonderful
summer. The first day of school is approaching soon and I need your help
for the Kiker School Supply Fundraiser on Friday, August 14th.
We need a total of 21 parents to help with coordinating the pick-up of
school supplies as well as help selling school t-shirts, water bottles
and book covers. We need 7 volunteers for each 2hr block (12:30-2:30,
2:30-4:30, 4:30-6:30). Tracy White is organizing the fundraiser and
will be there to lead the volunteers and make sure it runs smoothly.
Dear Community, One of our moms, Kelly C, has put together the care calendar for Sherman-Weiner family.
This is the care calendar information for them:
To access Sherman Family's personal CareCalendar site, visit http://www.carecalendar.org/logon/18635
and enter the following information in the appropriate spaces:
With great sadness, I am writing to inform you of the loss
of one of our much loved, talented and intelligent community members: Mr.LarryWeiner.Mr.Weiner passed away early yesterday
morning following a long illness. Mr.Weiner is the father of two of our Kiker students, Aria and LeahSherman-Weiner and
husband to dear LauraSherman.
In a posting to Larry’s
website yesterday, Laura wrote, “Larry
passed away in hospice this morning around 6:30, shortly after I woke up. It
was a peaceful passing, just a gentle cessation of his breathing. I am so sad,
but also happy to imagine him whole, healed and free from Alzheimer's. The
girls are doing great; they took the news in much the same spirit. I feel so
grateful to have shared such wonderful years with the amazing man that he was.”
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2:00 pm at OakHillUnitedMethodistChurch
in Austin.
Laura told me she is “looking forward to introducing her
wonderful husband” at the memorial. Please see tomorrow’s obituary for more
information regarding the service and directions on where to send memorials
and/or donations.
As one large family, it is times like this that we want to
all hold hands and encircle this family so that they can fall into us and we may be their strength, just as they have done the same to envelop others with
love, hope, faith and peace. We all
appreciate the invaluable, intimate gift that the family is giving us by
letting us into their life at this time; with respect to their privacy the
family prefers that contact and condolences be limited to cards, letters and
emails to lsarchitect@...rather
than phone calls at this time. I know Laura
and the girls will appreciate these touches of love and care.
True to the close knit nature and loving family spirit in
our community, I know many of you would like to provide services and support
for the family in the way of food and shopping for toiletries and paper goods,
etc.Please stay tuned for more
information as to when the family will be ready to receive these offerings of
love and support; I know they would like us to wait a while before we start these loving gestures.
I wish you all peace, love, and strength as we mourn,
support and hold tight to our most precious commodity; our friends and family.
We are putting the finishing touches
on truly great school year.
