BEFORE YOU BUY AN 805(D) CHECK THE VERSION NUMBER ON THE BACK.
There are 4 versions of the 805 & D. (see rear label FCC ID#)
-1 = 450-470
-2 = 470-490
-3 = 490-512
-4 = 406 to 430
Also see our FAQ file. All will go outside their ranges but no guarantee on how much.

The TK-705(D) (VHF) and TK-805(D) (UHF) commercial radios are 16 channel 27 watt radios for amateur, emergency services and GMRS (UHF) use. Yes, it is legal to use these radios on Ham and GMRS. They can be found at reasonable prices on Ebay and at swapfests. They have extended frequency coverage into the amateur bands without additional modifications and best of all they are front panel programmable. The "D" version adds Digital Quiet Talk (DPL) and a few more functions including scanning. (There is also a 45 watt version of the VHF model called a TK-705DH and a 35 watt version of the UHF model TK-805DH.) While the 705/805(D) radios are no longer manufactured, there are still thousands in use and working today in Amateur, GMRS and Commercial service.
