Hi Mary. Welcome to the group. Hope you have a good time here. Over the years
I attended Elvis concerts from Las Vegas to Alabama to Florida. He was quite a
showman. The backup groups were excellent. There are no fans like Elvis fans.

WOW! What a week it has been. This has been one of the happiest and best weeks of my life and it sure came at a good time. Having moved to Memphis, and being alone for the first time in my life I needed a break. It started with the VIP party and opening of the King's Ransom museum at the Imperial Palace in Vegas. Russ Howe, his wife Nereida and Bud Glass did an amazing job getting their wonderful exhibit on display. So many spectacular items available for the fans to see now; Elvis' automatic opener to the Graceland Gates, jewelry, guns, costumes, the list goes on and on including a Sonny West display.
You will not want to miss seeing this very professionally organized display of authentic Elvis owned items.  The VIP party was attended by Elvis people from all over: Sam and Louise Thompson, Linda Thompson, Cynthia Pepper, Darlene Tompkins, Sonny West, Sandi Miller, Joe Esposito, Kathie "Kitten" Spehar, Shirley Dieux, Joe and Martha Esposito, Mindy Miller (no relation to Sandi) and the curator for the museum, our dear friend Jimmy Velvet. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed seeing everyone together...except for Joe LOL.
Sandi Miller, Bud Glass, me - Sandi worked very hard along with , Cathy Saladino, Barbara Phillips from Georgia, Carol Mason and Maria...whose last name escapes me she's from NY - all put a lot of effort in helping get the museum set up.

Jimmy Velvet and the two Sandi's
Linda, Sam, Chris Davidson (former owner of the now-closed Elvis-A-Rama Museum in Vegas)
Linda T and me - we were able to spend some time together and it was great to catch up!

I'll send more photos from this event later  -  now on to the Chino Canyon Event!
Sonny with hosts Laura Whittier and Reno Fontana, owners of this beautiful home. You know that Elvis loved this house...Sonny said that when they would leave Los Angeles the closer they got to this house that Elvis said he could feel the tension leaving him. Elvis owned the Chino Canyon home from 1970 until his death.  He spent many happy times here.

The events on Saturday and Sunday were well attended.  Here is a photo of Sonny and me seated at his booksigning table:
My friend Phyllis Davis came with her handsome son and his girlfriend and brought us a delicious red velvet cake, along with some cosmetic gifts for Sue and me. THANK YOU PHYLLIS FOR YOUR THOUGHTFULNESS! It was so good seeing you!
The dinner was spectacular! The tables were out by the pool and were decorated with table toppers made by our member Doris Rowlands - an Elvis military design material - topped with gold busts of Elvis and American flags. VERY IMPRESSIVE! A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO DORIS FOR HER LOVING GENEROSITY IN DONATING THE  MATERIAL AND MAKING THE TABLECLOTHS!
There was a scrumptious Mexican buffet and slides of Sonny and Elvis playing on the screen in the background. Five Star Entertainment, made up of Deon, Annette and Ryan, did an awesome job. The beautiful roses came from the roses on the estate. Laura has 250 rose bushes, which she personally maintains. They have been featured in the Sept/Oct issue of American Rose under "The Elvis Presley Estate Palm Springs Rose Garden". Quite an accomplishment!
Here is a photo of Sonny holding the original keys to the Chino Canyon home
And here he is inserting them into the original security system as he did many times in the past!
It was great to see Viva Las Vegas Pres Sue Lorenz here, as well as our member Linda Russo who traveled from New Jersey, and my close friend Sharon Kirkpatrick who came from Florida and two very dear friends Nancy Huett and Miss Sandy Denton from Dallas! Many people I met for the first time - including a former room mate of Sonny's  Bud - and Karate Pat and her husband Johnny Foster. My friends Linda and Cindy Strong (sisters) gave me a beautiful Brighton necklace for my birthday - a very special little book with angel verses...hope someone got photos of that!

Here is a photo of Bud, Sonny and Johnny

Johnny, Sonny, Karate Pat - I'm sure you all know the story about how Pat got the name by defending Priscilla  from 2 girls at the gate - and Elvis gave her a TLC for her efforts. She and her husband have remained close friends with Sonny all these years.
This is just a partial view of some of the people. You will see Tina standing in the back to the left - Tina works security for Sonny; she is trained in karate and studied under Ed Parker. She has a 3rd degree black belt, and is a very dear friend of ours. She is also my room mate!

Because I want to share more of the Chino photos with you, I am going to do a separate email for the Nixon Library event.  If you EVER get the chance to go to Palm Springs DO NOT MISS THIS BEAUTIFUL HOME that Elvis loved.  The view is spectacular, and you can see why he loved this place so much.
This is Debbie, a "California gate girl" who Sonny has kept in touch with.

We had about 40 people for dinner.  Earlier after the "nibbles" break, we did a raffle and some people took home some amazing Elvis items!

Laura and Reno have an extensive and expensive task ahead of them restoring this beautiful home to it's glory.  Keep them in your prayers as they embark on this journey.

All in all, it was a fantastic two days.  Good food, good fun, good people. What more could you ask for?

Love
Sandi

I received an email from Sandy Quinn, Vice President of the Richard Nixon Foundation, inviting Sonny to be a guest speaker at the Nixon Library. Most of you know that I work with Sonny as his Personal Assistant. As we were close by, in Palm Springs for the Chino Canyon event, we accepted his invitation for October 26.  Upon our arrival, Sandy came out to greet Sonny in front of the library.  Sandy formerly was the head of marketing for Disney World, and was an assistant to Richard Nixon when he ran for the office of Governor of California in 1962 and also headed up his own marketing and communication company for a number of years. He is a warm, enthusiastic man with twinkling eyes, a winning smile and an Elvis fan...yeah, I liked him right away!

We were escorted inside where Sonny was introduced to some of the ladies who work at the Library.
The gift shop exhibit of Sonny's book immediately caught my eye.
I was documenting almost every step - I kept saying "Wait I need a picture here!" Sandy and his friend and associate, Frank Gannon of Washington, DC, were very patient with me and made us all feel very much welcomed. After a couple of photo ops we were taken upstairs where Sonny did a brief Q&A for a blog on the Nixon Library website. Be sure to watch for it!
Getting miked up
You can see Frank intently listening as Sonny tells one of his stories...we all know why Elvis called Sonny "The Great Explainer"! His detail, and memory are legend!

After the interview, we were invited to dinner in the executive conference room. A delicious buffet was served. Frank had a very compatible personality and instantly fell into the dialogue that Sue and I are known to use (most of you know that when we say how tacky something is or how horrible it is, the more we like it...yeah, we're crazy but it works for us LOL) After Sonny's talk Frank said "I really hated that. It was just awful." I knew we'd made a friend LOL.
Tina, still working her security detail
Jonathan, Sue, Tina, Sonny, Frank and two other Foundation employees

After eating we were escorted downstairs, but first I had to have this photo:
Then Frank introduced Sonny in one of the most complimentary ways I've ever heard. He said, "When I was a young boy, I didn't want to grow up to be a doctor or lawyer or engineer. I wanted to be like Sonny and Red and hang out with Elvis!" What a cool thing to say, and it was from the heart for sure! He spoke of how much he admired Sonny and was very complimentary to him. Sonny talked about the famous White House visit, and other Elvis stories. It was a very receptive audience.
After about half an hour, Frank reclaimed the mike and in his tongue-in-cheek humor said that the Nixon Library was renowned for their lavish gifts, and he presented Sonny with and Elvis/Nixon coffee mug!
Two great men exchanging a laugh.

We then went out to the gift shop where fans lined up to purchase books or postcards for Sonny to sign.

We were pleased at such a good turnout as well as visits from several good friends; Joan and Paul,  Chris Dasher and her hubby, Joe and Debbie, Karen and David

Sue and Frank in deep discussion

And the final goodbyes  but only for the evening, because both Sandy and Frank said Sonny would be back!

And not to let a photo op pass, I got a couple of late ones by the fountain but for some reason my camera got fuzzy on me! Drat!

I can only say what an honor it was to be able to accompany Sonny to this event. He did an awesome presentation - but that was no surprise. Sonny is a gifted speaker and it comes from the heart, which is why so many people like him.  The Nixon Library has so much history and so much beauty. I made a promise to myself to return when I can spend an entire day there.  I hope you enjoyed my pictorial report!
Love

Laura and Reno have an extensive and expensive task ahead of them restoring this beautiful home to it's glory.  Keep them in your prayers as they embark on this journey.

All in all, it was a fantastic two days.  Good food, good fun, good people. What more could you ask for?

Sonny, Linda T

Imperial Palace Las Vegas now hosts The King's Ransom Museum, a one of a kind exhibit of Elvis Presley artifacts and priceless personal treasures (Pictured above: Linda Thompson, Elvis' former girlfriend & Brody Jenner's mother - Photo: © Erik Kabik/ RETNA/ www.erikkabik.com).  This multi-million dollar collection is on display for the first time ever in Las Vegas, the very city where The King set up court and reigned supreme in the 1970's.

The King's Ransom Museum provides an exciting opportunity for fans to get a rare glimpse into the life and career of one of the world's greatest entertainers, Elvis Presley. Showcasing pieces from both Elvis' personal life and his acting and singing careers, The King's Ransom Museum is truly unlike any other exhibit. Items include: Elvis' 1977 Lincoln Continental, stage and film wardrobe, personal clothing items, jewelry, guns, badges and a variety of Elvis' law enforcement objects, personal artifacts from his Graceland home including the Bible that was on his nightstand when he passed away and many more items encompassing Elvis' life and career from the 1950's through the 1970's.

The King's Ransom Museum is located in the Imperial Palace's Royal Halls, on the third floor of the casino. The exhibit is open seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and admission is $10. Tickets may be purchased at the door or online at www.imperialpalace.com. The King's Ransom Museum is scheduled to remain at Imperial Palace until April 2010. Hi Carman,

Great to have you here. My love for Elvis began in 1956 when I first heard Heartbreak Hotel as a teenager. I didn't see him live until 1976, then again in 1977. There's just nothing like being at a live concert. Memories.

Kathy wasn't a huge fan until she began working with him. It's funny how she tells how all her previous years of working as a professional went right out the door as she watched him in awe that first night.

Subject: [kathyandelvis] Nixon Library

Love
Sandi

Dick Clark Productions To Release Elvis The Movie!

Shout! Factory is preparing to release to DVD from the Dick Clark Productions vault: the 1979 TV movie Elvis. Under the agreement, Shout! Factory has exclusive U.S. and Canada home entertainment distribution rights.
Elvis, directed by John Carpenter, starred Kurt Russell as Elvis Presley in a biopic of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The film also stars Shelly Winters as Elvis’ mother and Pat Hingle as Col. Tom Parker.
This release is expected in 2010.

I'd like to wish everyone Happy Halloween, as I sit here in black slacks, black turtle neck sweater, black painted stripes on my face and a headset with orange cat ears. Lol. Who said you can't still be a kid even into your 60's. lol
