FBI Internet Alert: Beware Valentine E-Card

Tuesday, February 12, 2008 1:20 PM

Article -- The FBI released Tuesday a warning for Internet users:

If you unexpectedly receive a Valentine’s Day e-card, be careful. It may not be from a secret admirer, but instead might contain the Storm Worm virus.

With the holiday approaching, be on the lookout for spam e-mails spreading the Storm Worm malicious software (malware). The e-mail directs the recipient to click on a link to retrieve the electronic greeting card (e-card). Once the user clicks on the link, malware is downloaded to the Internet-connected device and causes it to become infected and part of the Storm Worm botnet. A botnet is a network of compromised machines under the control of a single user. Botnets are typically set up to facilitate criminal activity such as spam e-mail, identity theft, denial of service attacks, and spreading malware to other machines on the Internet.

The Storm Worm virus has capitalized on various holidays in the last year by sending millions of e-mails advertising an e-card link within the text of the spam e-mail. Valentine's Day has been identified as the next target.

Be wary of any e-mail received from an unknown sender.

Do not open any unsolicited e-mail and do not click on any links provided.

Sorry Cheri, you must have sent this after I turned off my computer, but it's a great message to start out today also. Almost as good as having two Valentine's Days. :)

My husband and I went a Sweetheart Dance with a local Elvis Tribute Artist Bobby Simpkins singing love songs (well he began that way, but the crowd soon had him speeding up the tempo) so it was a special day for us, and as usual Elvis had a big part in making that happen.

How about the rest of you. Any Valentine's stories -- that can be shared that is. :)

I played clarinet in high school, took two lessons on the accordion and quit. Trying to get both hands working at the same time was just to complicated for me. It’s really a difficult instrument, how a 4-year-old could do it is beyond me.

Kathy played the “base drum” in high school. I bet that’s a bit of Kathy W. trivia you never knew. In fact, she can play virtually “any” percussion instrument, as well as guitar.

Speaking of musical instruments, another bit of trivia -- Kathy was with Steve Martin when he purchased his first banjo in high school, which he still owns and plays to this day.

I took my daughters out to lunch for Valentines Day. A female
recording artist who my youngest daughter (also a singer) is a huge
fan of, was seated at the table next to us, which gave my daughter a
chance to meet and speak with her idol! Who would think, the same
restaurant in this huge city of L.A., at the same time, at the next
table? Had to have been fate! That was a great Valentine's Day gift!

I just posted the minutes to the "Stuck On Elvis Fan Club" (Kansas
City based, but you don't have to live in Missouri to be a member)
and realized there's a lot of good info the rest of you might be
interested in also.

That had my Valentines day beat.

It's such a thrill when you run into these big stars like that unexpectedly. A couple of years ago while in LA visiting our daughter, we walked in a small, restaurant -- which was empty all except one woman and her daughter. You could have knocked both my husband and I over with a feather when we saw her, as there was "no doubt" who she was. We sat next to her and  ----------- "Kirstie Alley" was just sitting there talking on her cell phone to a friend, making plans to meet later at Starbucks. After she got off the phone I couldn't control myself and ask for her autograph. She'd just gotten back from "Boston," so signed her airline ticket, and gave it to me then just continued talking like a regular person. That was a breakfast I'll never forget as long as I live. She even said "it was nice meeting you. Have a safe trip home" when she left to take her daughter to school  ---- just like anybody.

I've always liked Kirstie Alley. She seems so down to earth. I think
women can relate to her, becuz she has the same issues we do, and
doesn't allow Hollywood to control her by falling into the "anorexia"
trap.
