Thanks for raising issues for physically challenged like me.
I have a request. BMC should make it compulsory for all new constructions
residential & commercial to be handicap accessible.
Old buildings should be given time limit to be handicap accessible.
Cooperative societies always blame BMC if a physically challenged person
wants to make ramp or break a wall with an architect's approval to create a
door. BMC should have their officers to judge such issues.
In case if an old building needs to be redeveloped to be handicap
accessible. Such buildings should get privileges in tax or extra fsi to
builders and society's should do it on themselves. If society members are
disobliging BMC should step in with harsher rules and BMC should have
timeframe to make Mumbai accessible to all.
If BMC builds footpaths with ramp they should see garbage bins, hawkers or
any other obstacles should not be on footpaths.
Public Toilets should have one handicap accessible toilet.
BMC should appoint a foreign consultants from a country like America and
follow international and good quality standards.
