Moral vs. Rights – The Big Fight
December 10, commemorates an historic event for humankind, the
proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, preamble
of which consecrates legitimate and fundamental rights inherent to
all of us as human beings "as a common standard to be achieved for
all peoples".
This day every year, celebrated as International Human Rights Day,
reminds us of persisting human rights problems in our communities
and in the world, and of the enormous efforts still required to make
human rights a reality for all.
In recent months, Mumbai City has come across various issues such as
rape of young women by police, moral policing etc, which has spurned
up the debate whether rights clash with morals.
To mark Human Rights Day and discuss this crucial issue with youth,
India Centre for Human Rights and Law (ICHRL), Mumbai and SVKM'S
Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) have jointly
organized a panel discussion on "Moral vs. Rights – The Big Fight"
followed by an open house debate and discussion among youth.
