There seem to be 3 proposed solutions to reducing the population and aggressiveness of stray dogs:
a) sterilise all stray dogs
b) remove all garbage from the streets
c) kill / remove all stray dogs
The expert animal-welfare NGOs say that if a) and b) are done, the problems of stray dogs (attacking people / barking a lot / aggressive behaviour) will be drastically reduced. They also say that c) is not a solution.
Assuming that a) and b) will solve the problem, it does seem worthwhile to explore if we should have a group of NGOs and other concerned citizens for the following:
- acting as a referral point for citizens for guidance on whom to contact to inform about:
- problems faced by specific dog(s)
- problems faced by citizens due to specific dogs
- being a well-informed and knowledgeable group who can act as a resource for individuals and groups to answer questions pertaining to stray dog policies, behaviour, sensitisation, etc. i.e. answering questions / addressing Rotary Clubs / etc.
- interacting with BMC to know about the effectiveness, problems, and plans for the various measures being taken
- etc.
See you on Tuesday at 4 pm to discuss the above. Please try to come before or on time. Please send your comments prior to that, if possible, to enable others to read and respond.
